Bulls staring down the barrel – UPDATED

Written by Rob Otto (robdylan)

Posted in :Bulls, Original Content, Super 14 on 19 Feb 2008 at 11:44

It’s not looking good down at Roftus now that Bryan Habana has been ruled out for the next few weeks.

Reports indicate that crowd favourite Marius “Muismangel” Delport will be the likely benificiary of Habana’s misfortune, coming in on the left wing. Danwel Demas will move onto the bench and if ever you needed a more pertinent example of the Bulls’ lack of backline depth, there you have it. Delport is not the sort of guy I’d be happy to have in my team at this level and Demas, furthermore, seems to struggle in the Currie Cup.

Akona Ndungane, who was meant to be fit for this game, will need at least an extra week on the sidelines and hooker Chilliboy Ralepelle is still not fit enough to be considered for the Super 14 squad,

Not the sort of position you want to be in with the Crusaders coming to town and smarting after being humiliated in the semi-final last year.

Update: Here is the confirmed team, courtesy of www.bluebull.co.za.

Vodacom Bulls: Zane Kirchner; John Mametsa, JP Nel, Wynand Olivier, Marius Delport; Derick Hougaard, Fourie du Preez (capt); Pedrie Wannenburg, Wikus van Heerden, Deon Stegmann, Wilhelm Steenkamp, Danie Rossouw, Rayno Gerber, Derick Kuün, Gurthrö Steenkamp.

Reserves: James van der Walt, Werner Kruger, Jaco Engels, Dewald Potgieter, Heini Adams, Morné Steyn, Danwel Demas.

Shaun Veldsman will be the TMO

  • The Bulls don’t scare me this year. We ahve the forwards to take them (in fact, we have had the upper hand there for 2 years now) and without Habana, du Preez is the only dangerous player they have.

  • it’s a double-edged sword. We play the Saders away this year and are quite unlikely to dent them. We actually do need them to drop a few away games, so it would be to our advantage should the Bulls win.

  • of the three, I reckon the Cheetahs stand the best chance, as long as they take their first half performance and double that.

Playing like they did in the second half, the Force hardly even need to pitch up to win the game.

  • “Matt Henjak and Haig Sare will front a Rugby WA disciplinary tribunal today to explain the brawl which left Sare with a broken jaw, Henjak bloodied and scarred and both in danger of the sack.

While former Wallaby halfback Henjak’s reputation appears the most damaged following a string of other incidents, it is understood the Force’s patience with Sare is also thin.”

    Sharks to win.
