The QR Reds have named an unchanged starting 15 to play the Hurricanes in Wellington on Friday in round two of the Investec Super 14 tournament.

Reds Rugby reports that the only squad change is on the bench, where flyhalf Quade Cooper comes in for utility back Andrew Walker

Cooper was captain of the QAS Reds second 15 that beat the Young Waratahs 32-18 in Sydney on Saturday and was instrumental in achieving the victory.

“We wanted to give him (Cooper) a full 80 minutes to show he could control the game from 10 (flyhalf) and he did that very well in Sydney,” Head Coach Phil Mooney said.

“We’ve rewarded him with a place in the 22 this week.”

Mooney said after winning last Friday night’s match against the Highlanders by 22-16, the QR Reds were forward to the challenge that Round 2 will bring.

“We’re excited about going to Wellington. It’s a great stadium to play at and the Hurricanes are an excellent side stacked with All Blacks. There’s no better way to test ourselves and we look forward to doing that,” Mooney said.

The team is:

Starting XV: 1. Greg Holmes, 2. Stephen Moore, 3. Rodney Blake, 4. Van Humphries, 5. James Horwill, 6. Hugh McMeniman, 7. David Croft, 8. John Roe (c), 9. Sam Cordingley, 10. Berrick Barnes, 11. Clinton Schifcofske, 12. Chris Siale, 13. Morgan Turinui, 14. Digby Ioane, 15. Chris Latham.

Reserves: 16. Sean Hardman, 17. Dayna Edwards, 18. Ed O’Donoghue, 19. Leroy Houston, 20. Will Genia, 21. Peter Hynes, 22. Quade Cooper.

  • This is one of the matches that I am not sure who to pick.

The Hurricanes are a good team, but are the 2008 reds maybe a little better?
