Jean happy with Bobo by his side.

Stormers captain Jean de Villiers respects the Sharks’ midfield, but he is very glad that Gcobani Bobo is now playing in his side.

Bobo, who played rugby in Durban last year, had a good game in the Stormers jersey in the defeat to the Bulls at Newlands on Saturday.

Stephen Nell of Die Burger writes that De Villiers said: “Gcobani did very well on Saturday. It was a real loss to the Sharks when he decided to come to Cape Town to play rugby here, but he’s presence is a real bonus for us.”

De Villiers and Bobo can still become a very good centre pairing, but they will have to be alert in Durban on Saturday.

The Sharks have Brad Barritt and Waylon Murray and they have played together for a number of seasons.

Coach Dick Muir also confirmed that he would start with French player Frederic Michalak at flyhalf.

De Villiers said: “I’ve played against Michalak a couple of times. He has very good hands and feet, but he can also make mistakes. We must put him under pressure.”

De Villiers said the Stormers would have to cope with the weather in Durban if they want to beat the Sharks.

“The humidity will definitely be a factor, but there are ways and means to compromise,” said De Villiers.

Yeah right Jean…. Coming from the most diabolical centre around, that’s rich. We’ll stick with Waylon thanks Jean.

  • Charlie, I posted before I read your 1st post, but 100% in agreement. Jean can breath a sigh of relief now that there is some decent defence in the midfield.

  • Well what else could he say “I miss De Wet”
It was the right move for Bobs to make – he wouldnt have got much game time at the Sharks.

  • I would hope so – a young strapping lad like him! It’s funny how people often get the misconception that he is older than he is.

But that was in CC match about 3 years ago

How does the commentaor Andy Capastagnio usually says… “The exciting centre Adi Jacobs just 27 years old but it seems like he has been around forever”

  • Jean needs to take a step down from the level of his ego to that of his ability.

Just hope he doesn’t injure himself in the fall.

  • Some of the local sides i.e. the Lions and the Stormers have become a bit of a thorn in the side of the Sharks. They so often win their most difficult games (like the one last year against the Crusaders) and then lose the earier ones!

Hope that will not be the case this weekend. Go Sharks!

  • True, KE… Fred has played 50 tests, though, including single-handedly demolishing the Boks in SA… He’s played bigger rugby than the odd test against those minnows of the global game, England ;)
