Injuries pile up for Stormers

Rubbing further salt into the wounds caused by Schalk Burger’s suspension is the news that the Stormers may well have to make do without two further players this weekend.

Apparently, both Gcobani Bobo and JD Moller are nursing bumps from the Sharks match and neither is a definite starter for the impending clash against the high-riding Crusaders. Coach Erasmus seems pretty confident that they’ll make it, though, which is good news, considering he has virtually no depth at prop. The situation at centre is not a lot better, with Dylan des Fountain unlikely to make as much of an impact as Bobo would.

Expect Rassie to shift Luke Watson back to 6 to make up for Burger’s unavailability. The talk is that Robbie Diack should come in at the back of the scrum.

Not the sort of moves that are likely to give Robbie Deans too many nightmares, anyway. Deans has made a number of statemens in the press indicating that the Stormers are “desperate and dangerous”. I think he’s bluffing. He knows his team have far too much in the tank to stand any realistic chance of losing this one.

  • with all the injuries in the south african teams, de villiers will definately get to rate all the players in sa, not only the starters. so instead of a rating for 75 players. we will get a rating for all rugby players in sa at this rate.

  • yeah rob. it is a good stock taking exercise. what better opportunity to test the depth of sa rugby. 20-40 players overseas. 5 players injured a weekend (never mind those still injured)we should easily get to try out every player in the country. anyone got a spare set of boots? i think i try out for wynands position, no one will notice the difference (except maybe the hair and my gut).

  • I must say I agree with TT – Wynand really has been shocking – even in the WC.

  • Nel is 1.83m tall and weighs 91 kg.

Waylon Murray is 1.90m tall and weighs 105kg.

No excuse for being bullied by Nel.

  • Paarl… someone needs to make sure he ends up at the bottom of a ruck, just once.

  • He is much to wise to get there. Think someone just have to kick his balls, pot shot and run for cover.

  • Ackers is expendable… it’s his last game.

THAT REMINDS ME. We need to at least get Sykes half an hour off the bench this week, since he’ll be expected to start next week.

Sorry, Keegan, but you just lost your bench spot

  • RD – okay then, let’s use and abuse. That’s what I say.

Sykes apparently wasn’t great last week playing for the Beeste – hope it gets better. Maybe a bit rusty?

  • yeah… I think they made a mistake limiting Ackers’ involvement to only 3 games. Problem is, come next week, Sykes is all we have, unless they plan to start Al at lock with Johann. That could work, I guess. Maybe AJ could also fill in, which might be a better idea.

  • Well, considering that Paddy Power Taione should be available for the Sharks from either this or the next game, as well as the fact that AJ is looking behind the pace at the moment, maybe AJ should shift to lock, and we could start with Paddy at 7?

  • Ha, JP will fit right in at some of those clubs Charlie.

The guy should really be paid a big match fee to go head-to-head with Matt Henjack in a prize-fighting contest.

    Any bets?

  • AJ and Ackers should be alternated at lock.

BOTH are great Sharks players but in the new environment that have to stick to lock. Maybe not so much against the local teams but definately next week against the Blues.

  • DP

As far as i am aware he has only been contracted for the first 6 rounds. (6 matches, we have a bye in round 6)

That actually makes sense to me because we then leave for NZ for a Rnd 8 match against the Canes.

So I think he is contracted for the SA portion of the S14.

  • nope – sorry. Ackers was contracted for 3 rounds only. This week is his last game.

Agree, it makes total sense to bring AJ in at 4 if Sykes is not ready. Albert, Epi and Vin Deysel can play 7
