Tewis De Bruyn is expected to make his Super 14 Debut for the Cheetahs against the Blues this weekend.

De Bruyn returns after a lay off because of a groin injury, this now open the door for current second choice scrumhalf Tobie Botes to return to the Griquas to play for their Vodacom Cup team.

  • I am afraid that if the Cheetahs are already using players on the bench in round 4 who are not fully recovered from injury that it is going to be a loooooong season.

I knew there were a few depth concerns in Bloem but to put a player on the bench, who has not fully recovered from injury, with the thought that you are only going to use him if injury requires that he be used then you HAVE a depth problem of note.

  • of course… he even played a big of club rugby with Dumi M, Demas & Tiaan Marx last season when he was in limbo between Boland, Natal (there was an offer made to him) & the FS. You know the rest, he took up the FS offer as he thought he’d have more opportunity to play.

And right he was, with a Currie Cup medal to boot!

  • Sorry to do this, but are there honestly, like only 5 Afrikaans surnames?

It’s like every third guy is a Botha, de Villiers or van der Merwe…

Although a few years back when his dad was still playing, Tino had a brother (Bernd)who was quite a legend eightman on the Natal club scene. 2 Kankowskis, imagine that!
