The match finished two minutes short of the full 80 when the referee abandoned the game after a thunderstorm went over the ground.
The Bulls scored five tries to take maximum points and put behind them the disappointment of last week’s 33-27 defeat by the SWD Eagles in George. It was also a red letter day for flyhalf Francois Brummer who scored in a all four ways – a full house – with a try, four conversions, one penalty and a drop goal for a personal haul of 19 points.
A strong-looking Wildebeest combination were left reflecting on a second successive defeat following last week’s 30-10 home reverse at the hands of the Pumas.
The Bulls were stronger at the breakdown and in the collisions and had taken control of the game by the half hour mark as they grabbed a 22-point lead after scoring three tries.
Right wing Luvoyo Mhlobiso showed plenty of power himself for the first as he cut in off his wing and brushed off a couple of tackles to score the first to the right of the poles before No 6 flank Okkie Kruger barrelled his way over from close range down the open side of a ruck.
Flyhalf Francois Brummer converted one to add to a drop goal he had kicked in the first minute and a penalty shortly afterwards before left wing Rocco Jansen came up with a great individual try.
He chipped down the left wing and then hacked the loose ball ahead before re-gathering and cantering in from ten metres to give Brummer an easy conversion.
The Wildebeest gave themselves hope with a try shortly before half time when flanker Nikolai Blignaut came up with the ball after the Wildebeest had mauled a lineout over the goal-line.
It was a false dawn for the visitors however. Brummer scored the the bonus point try after slick handling and a slicing run by Stephan Dippenaar had shredded the Wildebeest’s defence.
His halfback partner Francois Hougaard got the fifth from turnover possession as he scampered down the right hand touchline and looped round behind the poles to give Brummer his fourth successful conversion.
