Jake White is back in coaching. The former Bok coach has accepted an invitation to take charge of the Barbarians against Australia at Wembley on December 6.
“It’s a great honour to be involved with the Barbarians. I must just see if my boss gives me the weekend off,” quipped White, who now makes his living in business.
Clinton Van Der Berg reports in the Sunday Times that the match forms part of the British Olympic Association’s centenary celebrations, London having hosted the Olympics in 1908. The choice of Wembley rather than Twickenham was decided because the 1948 Olympics were held there, while Australia won the gold medal for rugby in 1908.
The match will be White’s first chance to measure his talents against those of Robbie Deans, rated the world’s best provincial coach and due to coach Australia from June.Tweet
