The struggling Cheetahs have been buoyed by the news that Springbok prop CJ van der Linde has recovered from injury and will be available for selection for their Super 14 clash against the Brumbies on Friday.

Rugby 365 reports that Van der Linde’s recovery is a timely boost to the Cheetahs, who are yet to win a match in this year’s tournament.

After resting some key players for the Crusaders match, coach Naka Drotske is expected to name is strongest possible team in a bid to break their win drought.

Form loose forwards Duanne Vermeulen and Heinrich Brussow will be back in the starting XV, and will be raring to get stuck into the Brumbies.

It is likely that coach Naka Drotske will name Van der Linde on a substitutes bench but he will no doubt be called into action during the game.

His strong scrummaging and bulldozing runs will be a big boost to the Bloemfontein franchise.

In other good news, Jacques-Louis Potgieter has also recovered from injury and will be available to face the Brumbies.

The only injury worry is that of Kabamba Floors, who will need to pass a fitness test later in the week.

Inspirational flank Juan Smith, who has been recovering from a knee injury in South Africa, is expected to be available in two weeks time.

Likely Cheetahs team: 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Eddie Fredericks, 13 JW Jonker, 12 Meyer Bosman, 11 Jongi Nokwe, 10 Conrad Barnard, 9 Falie Oelschig, 8 Duanne Vermeulen, 7 Darron Nell, 6 Heinrich Brussow, 5 Barend Pieterse, 4 Rory Duncan (captain), 3 Kobus Calldo, 2 Adriaan Strauss, 1 Wian du Preez.
Replacements: 16 Richard Strauss, 17 CJ van der Linde, 18 David de Villiers, 19 Hendro Scholtz/Kabamba Floors, 20 Tewis de Bruyn, 21 Jacques-Louis Potgieter, 22 Hendrik Meyer/Tobie Botes.

  • Two weeks ago I would have said they have a better than average chance to beat the Brumbies.

Now i would say they have a 40% chance of doing it.

One of the difficult picks of the weekend. Will probably go with the home team on a whim.

  • Huge boost for the Cheetahs. We need them to stuff the Brunches and stop them getting any momentum

  • I would have thought that if Potgieter was fit he would get the nod ahead of Barnard.
