No Habana for Chiefs clash

The IRB Player of the Year, Bryan Habana, will not be able to play for the Vodacom Bulls against the Chiefs in Rotorua on Saturday due to a recurrence of his shoulder injury.

The BBRU reports that Habana will be replaced by the SA 7′s player Danwel Demas but the rest of the backline that played against the Reds was left unchanged.

Danie Rossouw combines with his Springbok teammate Bakkies Botha in the second row while the young fetcher Deon Stegmann will get an opportunity to hunt alongside Wikus van Heerden.

Wilhelm Steenkamp will get game time from the bench and Bandise Maku will in all probability make his Super 14 debut in the latter parts of the second half.

It is good to see Hilton Lobberts back in the mix and he is one of five forward replacements on the bench.

Kick-off is Saturday at 8:35am (SA Time).

Vodacom Bulls: Morne Steyn; Akona Ndungane, JP Nel, Wynand Olivier, Danwel Demas; Derick Hougaard, Fourie du Preez (Capt); Pedrie Wannenburg, Wikus van Heerden, Deon Stegmann, Danie Rossouw, Bakkies Botha, Rayno Gerber, Derick Kuün, Gurthrö Steenkamp.
Replacements: Bandise Maku, Werner Kruger, Wilhelm Steenkamp, Hilton Lobberts, Heini Adams, Stephan Dippenaar, Dewald Potgieter.

  • No if only Tiger Mangweni was on tour then JP “Wat het ek gedoen” Nel can be dropped and Steyn can play at 12 with Mangweni at 15.

  • They are going to get absolutely annihilated with that backline. Chiefs by 30+

About the only positive is that they have moved PK to lock.

  • KSA – like RD said on the other thread – maybe we should play Steyn at 12 for the Beeste this Saturday.
