The final 2008 Auto & General Super 14 Lions Touring squad has been announced but sadly will have to do without the services of captain Ernst Joubert for their five match trip to the Antipodes.

The team enjoy a bye this weekend after six rounds but will be leaving on Friday, a week ahead of their first match to acclimatise ahead of their game against the Highlanders on Friday 4 April. They then have a tough match against the Crusaders before heading over the Tasman Sea to play the Waratahs and Brumbies in Australia, before heading back to New Zealand for their final tour match against the Hurricanes.

They return for their final two matches, at home to the Chiefs and Stormers.

The GLRU has announced that unfortunately, Ernst Joubert’s Super 14 is over as he will undergo an operation to his shoulder on Friday, 28 March and will be out of the game for the next four months. Wilhelm Koch has been called in to replace Joubert and Cobus (Baywatch) Grobbelaar will take over the captaincy role for the remainder of the Vodacom Super 14 competition.

Other injury news is that Louis Strydom unfortunately did not pass a fitness test, and as a result he will be entering rehabilitation with Andre Pretorius and Jaque Fourie. Rudi Vogt will replace Strydom for the Vodacom Super 14 overseas tour.
