The South African Rugby Union (SARU) has appointed rugby writer and broadcaster Andy Colquhoun to the new position of strategic communications manager. He will take up the role on 28 April 2008.

SARU announced that Colquhoun(47) brings with him 26 years experience in sports journalism. He has written and broadcast on rugby for all major print and electronic media in the rugby-playing world and has edited the SA Rugby Annual on behalf of SARU for the past ten years. He has also authored three other books on South African rugby.

Colquhoun will report to SA Rugby (Pty) Ltd managing director, Jonathan Stones, and to SARU chief executive, Johan Prinsloo, in the new job.

“The position covers responsibility for all our press communications as well as for publications and our website,” said Stones. “Communications is an area where we have under-performed and hopefully this appointment is the first step to putting that right.”

  • More the implication that there will be further scandals. I’m sure you’re right, though

  • Oh okay

There WILL be, I am sure. Hope he hangs around until after the RWC so that the book can be a reasonable length.
