  • Aaargh, this is diabolical.

Sharks forwards nowhere vs Tahs. Seens flashes from Kankowski but generally he’s in Waugh’s pocket. C’mon, those missed catches from Pietersen & Ndungane – should really have been caught. We’ve been let off by Tahs mistakes.

How have the Sharks gone backwards over the past season?

And why do the Sharks players NEVER put decent pressure on Tahs when chasing kicks – Tahs seem to re-catch all their up & unders etc without pressure from our guys – Pietersen & co almost seem scared to challenge!

Tahs like to do their playing in the second half, though… I’m worried we’re going to tire faster than they will.

We have them in the scrum and are doing better at the breakdown than last week

  • I am very negative. I doon’t think the Sharks are playing good rugby this season at all. Compare to last year. Our back play especially. An example is JP & his zero tries this season. Not good for a winger at all. He had 12 last season. And our forwards lack the impetus they had last season.

So people will point out the Sharks are second on the log to me. But really, have you actually seen the Sharks totally dominate a game for the full 80 minutes? I would say we have been playing a reasonably “effective” game this season – but as we are seeing it has its shortfalls & will not take us to a S14 title let alone a final. Stale & flat on attack, no innovation – we are lagging behind the other S14 contenders & I fear we may miss out on a semi.

Dick needs to READ THE RIOT ACT!

As a Sharks fan, this is very disheartening to see a Sharks side play like this. And it’s not just this game, is it?

  • Not quite sure about our blend of loosies either. I’m a big fan of both Keegan and Botes but we do miss a POWER loosie in the mould of a Juan Smith, Schalk Burger or Duane Vermeulen.

Rob, I agree…the Tahs bench is pretty formidable so its going to be tough to win from here!

  • You know what makes me angry with Sharks HQ? Every season they put all their eggs in the S14 basket. So if we fail to win that, it’s over for our trophyware chase for the season. Over the past few years, the Currie Cup seems to diminish in importance.

I really hope high importance is placed on the CC this year – if not just to make me sweet again

But even if we do scrape to a win, this type of performance (which we’ve seen ALL season & originally attributed to rustiness) is NOT enough.

    And Norton-Knight scores.

Tahs support play is just so much better than Sharks, which is non-existant

Yeah, something is wrong in Sharks camp. Yes, it could be “lack of leadership, stalwarts” etc. But really, I reckon this Sharks team has enough talent to play better rugby than they are this season. They’re punching way below their weight, and I’m not sure why.

  • IMO, we are lacking:

    1) a back 3 that actually hits the line at speed & at clever angles (let a lone ‘a’ angle)
    2) a playmaker at 10 who dictates – Michalak has not been that, I’m afraid. Compare to Stormers – that 10/12 axis has been their revitaliser
    3) a mongrel/enforcer in the loose trio. They are like kittens at present. Time for an import from Bloem.
    4) a Free State lock :)
    5) a NATURAL leader, who galvanises

He was always more a cricketer than a rugby player. And was a schools rugby coach before he joined the Sharks. With Northwood I think.

  • Oh yes, another point on my list:

    8) good TACTICAL kicking out of hand – look at the position Steyn’s last kick put us in. Now why weren’t there more of those type of kicks earlier, to pin the Tahs in their half & gain some positional play?

We drop out the Top 4 now. Tahs to second. No, I don’t think the Tahs are a worthy second, but then neither were we.

Let’s not pussyfoot & pander to the Sharks, that was appalling. They have been appalling for all but 2 games this season – there is a standard, & the Sharks are below the stanadard expected from them. They have the class & talent & should be performing better than this drivel.

  • Now the Barritt detractors must eat their words!! We realy missed him today! HE IS OUR NO.12!!
IMHO – I think Dick has stuffed around with our backline players tooooo much & they are just not “clicking”, not playing for each other!

  • Too much inconsistency in selection all season, as evident in the back’s lack of ability to gel and score tries and bonus points… we’ve known this all along… but scrapping wins maintained the false sense of security…

  • dissapointing, i dont really like the make up of the pack and thought the loss of Ackerman was premature, but suppose both he and AJ are getting on. Epi was a v good buy but the idiot had a brainfart which has cost the sharks a decent blindsider. The injury to Muller could not have helped and the Tahs pack and halfbacks are very good and hitting some form, but think its time to go shopping in Bloem.

  • Time for Dick Muir to get his ACT together  He just has not been able to get this team to play as a team….tooo many individuals playing for themselves, tooo much messing with the backline.
We are definately missing John Smit’s captaincy!

Oh hell! Chelsea have scored!!

  • yoiks! We missed John Smit’s captaincy, we missed Muller, we missed Ackermann, we missed Sykes, we missed Butch, we missed Barritt, we missed Percy. Those are a lot of losses from last year’s team. We also miss an AJ Venter like he played last season and before. Sadly not too many positives, but I have to say that Ndungane stood out on the wing, he popped up everywhere, and was clearly always looking for work. He may not have that all out, top end pace, like a Habana or Chavanga, but in overall wing play, he is been excellent all this season and particularly against the ‘tahs.

I would tend to agree that Muir has been chopping and changing in the backline too much. It is hard as a team to gel with each other in situations like that. But doesn’t it always seem that when Adi comes on, things happen and players around him show up and play better with him. He does not seem to have problems gelling with his teammates like someone like Freddie has. His hands are so good, and he can accomplish so much, but for some reasons, his teammates never quite seem ready for what he is about to do.

I am very sorry for the injury to Freddie, and I sincerely wish a very prompt and full recovery for him. He has become a Shark in one season and put his body on the line for his adopted franchise, and as a supporter will always appreciate that. However, if anything positive is to come out of it, I just hope that this week with Ruan working at 10 all week, and coming into the game in the mindset he is playing 10, and is the Sharks 10 will help him play with the class we all know he has. He exhibited flashes of brilliance, and seemed to have some very good ideas for getting his line going, he just seemed somewhat unprepared, nervous, and a little out of position. He made some silly mistakes, but I hope by being anointed as the Sharks 10 for the remainder of the season will thrust him into greatness. Please no Steyn at 10.

  • Smit props up Clermont

Clermont set a club record with a 10th successive win in the French Top 14.

Springbok captain John Smit played tighthead prop for 65 minutes as Clermont hammered Auch 36-15 away from home to retain top spot ahead of Toulouse.

Smit, who has played mostly at hooker this season, told Keo.co.za he was pretty buggered after the tighthead effort, but that playing there could only improve his all-round game.

Springbok centre Marius Joubert, according to reports, again excelled and has easily been the form centre in the competition.

Smit, who was named Bok captain a couple of months ago, may miss the French Top 14 play-offs because of international commitments against Wales in June.

Perpignan consolidated their top four place with an away win against Brive. Percy Montgomery kicked a conversion and two penalties and former Stormers centre Gavin Hume added a drop goal in the 16-7 victory.

  • Bear,
agree Pienaar should now try and settle at 10. will be a baptism of fires since the crusaders up next but thats fine, sharks need to win their home games. thought terreblanche fell of at least 1 bad tackle and perhaps Steyn should go to 14 with Barritt back at 12. Hopefully Muller back for Saders and would be great if ackermann comes back till the season end he was playing v well before. dunno if Deysel any good, but need a blinsider in their too, either Deysel or Van den Berg. 2 losses in a row think beast and jannie go to bench for saders game and start with carstens-bismarck-bj, need some veterans to restore some calm.

I watched about 60 mins of the match and thought they were pretty crap.

There is no doubt that Monty, Butch and Smit leaving is being felt now more than ever.
