The Chiefs will be without All Black halfback Brendon Leonard as they look to cement a Super 14 rugby semifinal berth during their trip to Australia and South Africa.
RugbyHeaven NZ reports that sitting in fourth spot on the points table, the Chiefs complete their round-robin schedule with away matches against the Western Force, the Lions and the Sharks.
They head for Perth on Wednesday, where they face the Force on Saturday, but Leonard will not be travelling with them because of a bruised knee.
The problem sidelined Leonard from the Chiefs’ 32-20 victory over the Reds in Hamilton last weekend.
However, the 26-strong tour party named on Tuesday sees the return of skipper Jono Gibbes.
Gibbes has been out injured since round three after badly tearing a hamstring in the match against the Hurricanes on February 29.
The 31-year-old got through a solid 60 minutes for his club team, Te Awamutu Sports, against his old club Hamilton Marist in Hamilton on Anzac Day and has been announced fit to travel.
