Vodacom WP coach Jerome Paarwater on Wednesday announced his team to play the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs in a semifinal Vodacom Cup clash at Newlands on Saturday 3 May. Kick-off is at 14h00.

Paarwater could not consider fullback Wylie Human and flank Pieter Myburgh, who have been called up for duty at the Vodacom Stormers. Furthermore prop Wicus Blaauw could not be considered for selection for the semi-final, as he only played two games for Vodacom WP.

Blaauw accompanied the Stormers on the overseas leg of their campaign and did not meet the requirement of three league games. Michael De Neully Rice, who regularly featured this season, comes back into the starting team.

The promising Hayden Groepies takes over from Human at fullback, with Jacques Engelbrecht filling in for the injured David Hendricks. Tyrone Holmes replaces Myburgh on the other flank.

In another change Paarwater gave the young Alister Siegelaar a start ahead of the more experienced Paul Delport at scrumhalf. Dabeon Draghoender also moves to the bench to make way for PJ Vermeulen at outside centre.

Said coach Jerome Paarwater,” We were happy with the win last week against the Natal Wildebeest, but I was not happy with the team’s overall performance, so we have worked on some key areas this week.

“We have had a slight disruption this week with three of our key players joining the Vodacom Stormers side but their replacements have all been part of the squad from the start and have been training with us each week.”

“This week is another very important fixture for us. Our goal right from the start of the season has been to go all the way in the competition, and we are one step away from making the finals.

“We are fortunate that we have a home semi-final as the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs are one of the better sides in this year’s Vodacom Cup competition and they will provide a tough challenge,” Paarwater added.

There is a further club rugby curtain raiser between FNB Maties and Hamiltons at 11h45am. Gates open at 11h30am and the main game, Vodacom Stormers vs the Brumbies, is at 17h05.

The Vodacom WP team is as follows:
