Loosehead prop Kees Lensing is off to play for Castres as a “medical joker” till the end of the season.

There are still six rounds left in France’s Top 14.

Rugby 365 reports that Lensing, who turns 30 in June, has been contracted to the Sharks and played for the Wildebeest in the Vodacom Cup, unable to make the Sharks in Super 14. He captained Namibia at the 2007 World Cup and played for the Griffons, Eastern Province, the Bulls and Leeds before joining the Sharks.

Lensing will come in the place of Jérémy Castex who has sustained a neck injury.

Castres, who had a great win over log-leaders Clermont Auvergne this past weekend, have props Carl Hoeft, Kees Meeuws and Danie Saayman on their books.

  • How could he have become some sh!te… he had decent season with the Bulls… and a great RWC with Namibia?

I remember when he was first bought I was actually back in RSA at the KZN v Puma’s game (I think)… and talking him up… that was the last I ever saw of him

  • bryce, I don’t beleive he is a shite player at all. he has just never pulled finger at the Sharks. Maybe he is just there for the money – which he gets paid regardless fo how kak he performs.

  • That’s the most disappointing thing for me as a fan. The fact that he lasted so long is questionable. Both reflective of his low work ethic and the Union’s inactivity or inability to jettison him.

  • so how long before we start pointing fingers at Straeuli and questioning his competence for the job?

Lensing, Farani, Taione, Michalak… pretty long list now.

  • Lensing looked good at the Bulls…can’t understand why the Sharks didn’t use him more…was it that the player wasn’t motivated enough to perform?

  • What I don’t get is that Lensing was awesome for the Bulls…so why has he not performed at the Sharks? Did he just turn up for a pay day.
When the Sharks signed him, the general reaction was extremely positive with most people saying he was a good signing and just what we needed.

How can he have gone downhill so fast? Or are we just not getting the best out of him? There is no doubt that he can scrum!

  • Rob,

In hindsight Taione has proved to be a bad signing and I suppose with his disciplinary record, it was always a risk. However he is exactly the type of player the Sharks are badly missing. We need a big, physical number 6 (not the way SA teams number them) with some grunt and mongrel about him. At the moment our loosies are a bit lightweight and we are getting outmuscled in the contact areas. We need someone that attracts 2 or 3 tacklers and always get over the advantage line. I know Lauaki plays 8…but he is the type of player we are short of!

  • Bon voyage Kees… je ne pas lui manque!

Now that frees up some cash in the form of Kees’ wages to buy a COMMITED player. Let’s hope Rudi does his homework this time though.

  • Following on from Villie: aren’t we also missing a big, aggressive winger? Most of our guys are of the light ‘n’ fast variety (especially true of the Sharks). I think Craig Burden moving to hooker left us with fewer options on the wing.

  • we don’t have the big wingers in SA rugby. The Stormers, with all their depth, are reduced to fielding a PI every week ( Sireli Naqelevuki )
