Adrian Jacobs at outside centre is the big surprise in the Sharks team to face the Cheetahs. Captain Johann Muller will not play and as a result AJ Venter will again assume the captaincy.
Hooker Bismarck du Plessis and veteran lock Johan Ackermann come back into the tight five, with props BJ Botha and Tendai Mtawarira as well as lock Albert van den Berg retaining their spots from last week. The loose trio is also unchanged from the unit that did well against the Crusaders, with Jacques Botes, Venter and Ryan Kankowski operating in the same positions they occupied for the bulk of last season.
Rory Kockott and Ruan Pienaar are the half backs, but Brad Barritt has been named on the bench along with Waylon Murray, meaning an extended run at inside centre for Frans Steyn, with new man Jacobs coming in as his partner. Pietersen, Ndungane and Terblanche are the back three, again unchanged from last week.
There are some interesting developments on the bench, where Barritt and Murray are the only backline replacements. Steven Sykes joins Keegan Daniel and Jean Deysel to give plenty of forward reserve options, together with front rankers Craig Burden and Jannie du Plessis.
Here is the team:
15 Terblanche, 14 Ndungane, 13 Jacobs, 12 Steyn, 11 Pietersen, 10 Pienaar, 9 Kockott, 8 Kankowski, 7 Venter (capt), 6 Botes, 5 Ackermann, 4 van den Berg, 3 Botha, 2 B du Plessis, 1 Mtawarira
16 Burden, 17 J du Plessis, 18 Sykes, 19 Deysel, 20 Daniel, 21 Barritt, 22 Murray
