French First Division club Perpignan will make a decision on the playing future of their South African World Cup-winning fullback Percy Montgomery on Thursday.
Rugby 365 reports that the 34-year-old Montgomery, capped 94 times, had signed a season-long contract with the French Top 14 team, but he has been called up into the Springbok squad for the June 7 and 14 Tests against Six Nations Grand Slam-winners Wales, and a one-off game against Italy a week later.
Should Montgomery return to South Africa, he would miss four crunch club games against Auch, Toulouse, Dax and Stade Francais, and also a potential Top 14 semifinal on June 21, a berth in which Perpignan are still very much in the running.
Club president Paul Goze and manager Jacques Brunel held a meeting on Monday with Montgomery, his wife and agent Bruno Xamma.
“The player and the club want to end the season together and in harmony,” Goze said after the talks with Montgomery, who has scored 93 points in the 13 matches he has played for Perpignan.Tweet
