French coach Marc Livremont has announced a rag-tag 26-man squad for his side’s tour of Australia.
The non-availability of players involved in the semi-finals of the French domestic league have severely limited the options available to the coach and the squad contains 12 newcomers to test rugby. Loose forward Sebastian Chabal has been recalled after missing out on selection for the 6 Nations, after an average World Cup campaign.
The French are hoping that the youngsters blooded on this tour will form the backbone of their assault on the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand. Assistant coach Emile Ntamack told Rugbyheaven that “All these new players will have nothing to lose. We are going to Australia to win but whatever the results there will be no lynching”.
The coach’s younger brother, Mathieu Livremont, will captain the side. Who said nepotism was dead in the professional era?
