A host of Springbok Sevens stars will turn out for smaller unions in the upcoming Currie Cup now that their IRB Sevens circuit commitments have ended.

News 24 reports that the Cheetahs have released Springbok Sevens stars Jonathan Mokuena and Fabian Juries to the Griffons on a loan deal, the Afrikaans Sunday newspaper Sondag has reported.

And Boland will get the services of Mpho Mbiyozo, Frankie Horne, Renfred Dazel and Stefan Basson for the upcoming season as well.

Boland’s acting coach Louis Koen told the newspaper he was excited to have them in the side.

“They can certainly add some value to the team and are definitely reinforcements for a team that have been together for a long time now,” Koen said.

There is, however, uncertainty about how long Basson will be available after he signed with Italian club Rovigo.

“He needs to sort things out with his Italian club, and may not be available for the entire competition. The other players will be available for us for the entire competition though,” Koen added.

Griffons coach Harry Pienaar said he could use the Bok Sevens players until the Cheetahs needed them.

The Cheetahs also lent Vodacom Cup stars Albert Parsons, Danny Theron and Hercu Liebenberg to the Griffons.
