A few bits and bobs involving various New Zealanders…
1) Dan Carter has apparently signed with Perpignan, not Toulon as was widely speculated. Perpignan’s involvement in next season’s Heineken Cup was a major contributing factor to his decision. Although Toulon have recently been promoted to the Top 14, they are a long way off being included in the premier European showcase. Carter will miss next year’s Super 14 series, but will return to New Zealand to play for the All Blacks in the 2009 Tri-Nations.
2) All Black assistant coach Steve Hansen has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant head coach role for the Crusaders. Outgoing coach Robbie Deans has left a huge hole, which Hansen hopes to fill. All Black supremo Graham Henry is supportive of Hansesn’s application and the intention is that the latter would retain his national assistant coach position while coaching at Super 14 level. Hansen is widely expected to take over from Henry as head coach of the All Blacks before the 2011 World Cup.
3) Yet another New Zealand player has been involved in a “sauce-related” incident. Blues loose forward Jermoe Kaino was apparently arrested after being involved in a minor accident. A DUI charge is being investigated by New Zealand police. Kaino, in typical fashion, has not been removed from the All Black squad while the investigation continues.Tweet
