Two very small snippets of news from Long White Cloud land.
All Black lock Brad Thorn has been banned for a week following his “spear tackle” on John Smit this weekend. Stu Dickenson seemingly didn’t think the transgression warranted anything more serious than a penalty. The citing commission felt differently and the ban is a tacit admission that Thorn should have been carded during the game. Would this have changed the complexion, or the result? We’ll never know.
Smittie seems to be in some doubt for the second test, though, which would be a huge blow. WP hooker Schalk Brits has been called up as cover and is on his way to join the squad in Dunedin. Should Smit be ruled out, Bismarck du Plessis would start, with Brits providing cover from the bench. Let’s just hope that sanity will prevail and someone other than Victor Matfield would assume the Bok captaincy in this most horrific of scenarios.Tweet
