Crikey – we’re having to do this as a daily thread!

Latest news is this:

Rory Kockott is out for 3 more weeks with a hairline fracture in his tibia.

Brad Barritt is definitely out this weekend and probably longer with his strange hamstring/groin/back/overuse problem.

Deon Carstens is 50/50 and will be assessed on Thursday.

BJ Botha is very doubtful with a back injury and will probably be out.

Alistair Hargreaves is also out – not sure what his injury is.

Steven Sykes and Jean Deysel both trained with the squad and will in all probability be fit for this weekend.

There’s talk that we may possibly get Ryan Kankowski, Beast and Odwa Ndungane back when the Boks return.

At this stage, a possible Sharks lineup to take on Free State would look like this:

15 Terblanche, 14 Jordaan, 13 Murray, 12 A Strauss, 11 Bodmer, 10 Michalak, 9 Mathie, 8 Daniel, 7 N Strauss, 6 Botes, 5 Muller, 4 Sykes, 3 du Plessis, 2 Badenhorst, 1 Harris
16 Burden, 17 Mthethwa, 18 van den Berg, 19 Deysel, 20 Ndlovu, 21 Macleod, 22 Dumond

  • it’s actually not a bad team, that. If Deysel is fit enough to start, I’d put him at 8 and keep Keegs and Skollie on the bench as a dual-impact mega-sub-thingie for hte last half hour.

But the “probable” team above should be able to represent us well in Bloem…provided they play to their potential. Away games might prove to be very tricky this season.

  • Umm, and who is going to be our kicker?

From what I recall, Michalak’s place-kicking is like russian roulette – 5 blanks, as well as the obligitary “surprise”.

Hope they are not contemplating Dumond on the wing to offer (50%) place-kicking coverage….

I don’t think I could stomach the Sharks being sunk by the boot of Kleintjips – AGAIN!

“Magic Robert ” kry sy kans
    16/07/2008 07:39:15

    Hendrik Cronjé

Bloemfontein.

No- size is not the issue

I dont think he is dynamic enough- not as in personal drive

but he is not gOOde enough an athlete- or overly exposed to “medicinal herbs- powders” whatever for “conditioning”!

    Like I said

My opinion- my take- and nothing I have seen – as yet points otherwise.

BUT- I stand to be coRRected

But hey- imagine Juries coming on from the dEEp in the last 20 and a decent amount of baLL…..

  • @robdylan (Comment 72) : What KD lacks in physical size he makes up in guts and determination, he is pound for pound along with Rory Rocket the most tenacious youngsters around in the CC ; Like Ricky Januarie they do not know when to stand back, I would rather have a KD in my side than a big bruiser who has got a touch of yellow about him. Sure I know the adage taht a good big’un will always be a better than a good little’un, but KD has done us proud and if he is there you can bet that he will give 100% at the very least.
The tight 5 of the Sharks will have to dig a little deeper to ensure that Brussow, Scoltz and co have to play tight.
Mathie will have put pressure on Powell who has not been the picture of dependability, KD can then torment Klientjips into making mistakes half the battle can be won.
Either way this is going to be a game of attrition and the team who takes and makes the most of their opportunities will prevail.

  • Howzit Sharkies,
I’m hoping that the Cheetahs had a more physical game against the Bulls last week and my be a little pap on Sat. We also played on Friday which gives Sharks an extra day to recover.

The thing about the Sharks site was that the was not actually a big part of it’s success… if you look at the huge number of visitors they have online at any one time, you’ll see that it was actually a relatively small percentage of those that used to participate on the blog.

  • Actually it’s more a concern for the Bokke, having played 2 x Tests against the AB’s while the Aussies are rested.
Last year Dbn, AB’s took Boks out in the last 20 mins after we had a physical game vs Aussie in CT the week before while they were rested.

Remember, though, that that site is provided and paid for by Rudi’s employers. It’s an unfair labour practice for them to provide a site that allows the general public to slag off their employees.

  • I must say that Robbie Harris has improved a lot. He’s bulked up muscle, held his ground in scrum and even in the loose a bit. Also usefull cos he plays both sides of scrum. Actually all our props do.
    Handy.

Yes but I’d hardly say people were slagging off. More like expressing disappointtment etc – which is fair, so long as the comments are not too personal -ie) “I’m going to gut Rudi’s pet chihauhau” or something.

What use is a forum if the team in questions OWN FANS can’t express their own honest opinions & feelings?

What do they expect – that we all congratulate them & slap one another on the back when we BOMB out in spectacular fashion, as is the norm?

I must admit that I am finding your blog site very user friendly and although you seem at times a bit pedantic ( please do take take this the wrong way!) you have every right to believe that you have an excellent Rugby Blog site. so well done. Keep up the good work, I would suggest that the Sharks Web site should have a link to Sharksworld.

  • Hey Rob, How’s Superbru.
A mate in my pools is sitting on 21 points for CC and 6 for Tri.
He only has 1 pick half wrong – Grikwas vs Boland 9 all draw and he still got 0,5 point for within 5 points. Amaizing.
Kak thing is he has Bokke and FS to win.
Hope he’s right & wrong. LOL
