Western Province have called up three of the four returning Springboks for Saturday’s pressure Absa Currie Cup rugby derby clash against neighbours Boland Kavaliers at Newlands.
Superrugby reports that Scrumhalf Bolla Conradie, hooker Schalk Brits and prop Brian Mujati, were all named in the WP side which coach Allister Coetzee admitted were under enormous pressure after shock defeats at the hands of minnow sides Griquas and Falcons in recent weeks.
The pressure has seemingly also caused Coetzee to be undecided about who will be his flyhalf on Saturday and he has named both Willem de Waal and returning Springbok Peter Grant in his starting lineup.
Coetzee will make his final decision on the flyhalf berth known on the day of the match.
Earlier on Wednesday, WP decided to close their morning training session to the media out of fear that some of Coetzee’s plans will be made known to Boland, their Super 14 partners.
“Boland is part of our Stormers franchise, so they are familiar with many of our calls,” said Coetzee. “We’ve had to change a few things and I just want it to be kept secret at this stage.”
