National champions Eastern Province have provided 12 players to the squad of 28 announced by SA Rugby for the unofficial women’s Test series against the Barbarians next month.

Rugby 365 reports that only seven of the country’s 14 unions have players in the squad.

The Springbok women’s side will play a women’s Barbarians side on August 9 in a curtain-raiser to the Springbok-Argentina game at Ellis Park and again at Newlands before the Springbok-All Blacks game a week later.

The players will assemble in Port Elizabeth for a training camp in Port Elizabeth from July 28-30.

South African Women’s squad:
Blue Bulls: Ingrid Botha, Yolanda Meiring.
Boland: Natasha Hofmeester.
Border: Mandisa Williams, Portia Jonga, Fundiswa Plaatjie.
Eastern Province: Nomathamsanqa Faleni , Lamla Momoti, Marie-Lee Erasmus, Saloma Booysen, Lorinda Brown, Pumeza Gadu, Ramona Brown, Zenay Jordaan, Nomsebenzi Tsotsobe, Zandile Njoko, Cebisa Kula, Namhla Siyolo.
Western Province: Nadine Barnard, Nosipho Poswa, Nomtha Xape.
Griffons: Nombulelo Mayongo.
KwaZulu Natal: Aimee Barrett, Wendy Khumalo, Claudia Thompson, Nelisiwe Cele, Dolly Mavumengwana, Zinhle Ndawonde.

Instead of righting certain issues, they are contributing to the downfall. I would love to see more RUGBY!!!on SABC, be it women’s rugby,CC or whatever. That is the only way to promote this lovely sport.

(Comment 9) : I hope you were referring to my “lame” observation.I still find it funny though. But maybe you can see why we do not know enough about womens rugby, it is not that there are no interest!

And lastly, before some ass*&$% tells me to get M-Net or DSTV, for the sake of RUGBY and RUGBY SUPPORTERS we have to start complaining to the right guys.Maybe if we flood their bloody Mail with complaints, will they do something. A worthy cause????

  • @Silver Fox (Comment 24) : Spot on Fox…I’ve always said SABC should be playing a bigger role if we want to see REAL transformation in rugby.

Let’s face it…DSTV is a luxury that most South Africans can’t afford.
SABC should show at least one rugby game on Saturdays, even if it’s delayed. Rugby is a big sport in South africa and it deserves more respect and exposure.

    Thank you for your e-mail.

Please note that we do not broadcast curtain raiser as we only concentrate on the main event. However, we are not broadcasting Women Rugby.

Should you require any further assistance, Please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 59) : @blackshark (Comment 60) :

I think what she is trying to say is:

They don’t air curtain raisers as it is all planned and concentrated on the main event…curtain raisers are for the paid ticket buyers…and that makes sense…they have never aired curtain raisers…especially a test where there is a lead up to the test…but to me that is no reason why they cannot air it delayed!???!

Then she answers the delayed televising issue by saying they do not televise woman’s rugby at all even if it were not a curtain raiser….I guess that is a business decision….as it was when they did not televise all the CC matches but they televised all the NZAC matches…and boi did that pee me off…and I made that known…also spoke about it on keo and rugga and got as many people in on it as possible…I guess that is the only way you will be able to turn that business decision…but if the viewer stats come in and it is low…don’t expect them to be televising it for long…

“Whatever you give a woman, she’s going to multiply. If you give her sperm, she’ll give you a baby. If you give her a house, she’ll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she’ll give you a meal. If you give her a smile, she’ll give you her heart.

So – if you give her kak, you will get a bucket full of shit.

I am too small to play anywhere in the tight forwards, so anywhere from 6 onwards that they’re keen to play me, I’ll give it a bash. I actually don’t have bad hands (or feet) for the level at which I’ll be playing. It’s just speed that’s a problem.

  • A national survey into the bedroom behaviour of British women has revealed that a shocking 46% percent never or rarely achieve orgasm. The survey, conducted by Scarlet magazine and the makers of the PelvicToner to mark National Orgasm Day on July 31, polled over 2000 women across the country and found that women with better pelvic floor muscles were also enjoying better sex lives.

  • FYI
    Nomads edge Springbok women

Johannesburg – The Springbok women’s team fought back magnificently in the second half to run the visiting international side, Nomads, close before losing 40-34 after trailing 29-0 shortly before the break.

Scoring five tries in the second half, the Boks closed the gap to 37-34 before a last-gasp penalty by the Nomads’ wing Non Evans, who kicked 15 points, made if 40-34.

The Springboks’ fortunes changed after Zandile Njako injected some life into the backline and she was, with fullback Aimee Barritt, the star of the home side.

The Nomads’ side, equivalent to that of the men’s Barbarians, totally overpowered the Boks in the first half, despite a lack of cohesive teamwork which cost them an even bigger lead.

    Scorers:

    South Africa:

Tries: Aimee Barritt (2), Zandile Njako, Pumeza Gadu (2)
    Conversions: Nadine Barnard (3)
    Penalty: Barnard

    Nomads:

Tries: Fiona Brittan, Joanne O’Sullivan, Sarah Marsh (2), Georgia Stevens
    Conversions: Non Ecans (3)
    Penalties: Evans (3)
