The Springboks assemble on Wednesday morning in Pretoria where they will stay until Sunday, before transferring to Johannesburg to continue with their preparations for the Mandela Tribute Test against Argentina on 9 August in Johannesburg.

  • so much for all the speculation. It’s only Brits and Chavanga that have been dropped.

  • With PDV talking about His wings not finishing, I think we can expect Nokwe to be given a chance against Argentina.

And then when he scores three to be played in the 3Ns.

It’ll be a bit like trying to make a player a Springbok because he played well in the CC against some minnow team.

  • @wpw (Comment 7) :

If he wins the 3N and then comes out and says he is taking players on the EOYT to check their abilities. I will not have an issue if he comes back from the tour with a kak record.

He will be the 3N champions’ coach.

Use the Arg test to settle the team and then Thump the AB’s a week later with a relatively settled side.

I would go for JDV & Fourie

  • Personally I don’t Nokwe is bad selection..who knows he may thrive under the Bok enviroment..Truth is we don’t have speedy wingers and maybe he can gain from this experience..Chavanga dissapionted.

Also for me I would have considered Ludik or maybe even Benjamin

Pitty Watson is there..if he doesn’t produce the goods in the next 4 matches then the guy MUST be dropped. Wickus,Baywatch are much better players imo.Actually the same applies to Spies he has had his chance and is also in the last chance saloon.Chavanga was dropped after 2 matches hell Britz after one..so the same should apply to others that under perform.

  • I have some questions for whoever wants to answer me:

    1) whether Heinrich Brussow had not injured in the last weekend, Snor would have called him?

    2) I think the following players are still missing: Jacques Botes, Morné Steyn, BJ Botha and Heinke van der Merwe;

    3) I think the following players shouldn’t have been called:
    James (out of form)
Mujati (not an international class player, sic…)
    Steenkamp (struggling in the scrums…)
No. 46 (not an international class player, just a political selection)

    4) Jongi Nokwe is a political selection?

  • Nokwe is a decent selection. No right winger has nailed down the spot as yet. JPP is the best option at the moment. Nokwe was very good in the Super 14′s and has exceptional pace. He has also improved his defence enormously over the past couple of years. I think he deserves an opportunity to train with the Boks and build up his confidence.

I would not play him against the Aussies or AB’s just yet because they would target his wing with the high ball and he doesn’t have the best hands.

  • I CANNOT believe that we are still leaving out both our top tighthead and top loosehead. Heinke Vd Merwe and BJ are leapyears ahead of the next best props in SA. We are dicing with danger continuing with the scrum that we played in the first 3 games. They only scrummed well in the 2nd AB test!

  • @wpw (Comment 24) : It’s about opinions. Heinke is much stronger in the scrums but doesn’t offer as much around the park.

I would prefer a more solid scrum and then bring Beast on off the bench in the 2nd half! I’m seriously concerned about our set piece!

  • @H.O. (Comment 23) : No problem HO.

We have a shortage of quality wings in SA so need to experiment. PDV is looking for wings who can finish and those with lightning pace so fair to see if Nokwe can make the step up!

Anyway Habana and JPP are strong tacklers and can always be dangerous weapons with oval in hands.
People tend to think about them like they ought to have the same displays shown during last RWC…

Nokwe has really upped his game since last season already, but I agree very strongly with you here – nobody should be expecting our wings to score tries with the problems we have had upfront, and even at halfback, particularly with James not adjusting well yet.

Habana and JPP have shown that they can tackle and score when it matters – we should be very reluctant to cast that aside.

    Agree…no 14 is worth mentioning twice…
And all that have played at 14 have been quite invisible 90% of the game…especially if compared to a Hayens who was not passed the ball out wide even once in the SA test but had a much bigger impact on the game than our wings had…
Need someone that looks for work…my opinion why the Ausies are doing well….EVERYONE is looking to get in their…no matter their traditional positions…

    I’ll have both!??!
Heinke to scrum it up most of the game with Beasts fresh legs in the last 30 minutes!??!
    A definite winning combo…

The other sided of the scrum is the real problem though!??!
Will give CJ his dues…he did well in his last 2 games…think he was the only prop’s who scrummed in the Ausie test that did not give either a free kick or penalty away in teh scrums…

Must say I almost wet myself when the Aussies had a 5 meter scrum and PdV brought Mujati on  Luckily a free kick was given against the Ausies on the hit…
    Prayers are answered in sports….

  • People talk about Heinke not being effective around the park…

I ask you to follow him the next game…
He puts in quite a number of tackles a game…yeh not in the numbers you’d expect from a loose forward or centre…but more than average for a prop…
Plus he is at almost every tackle ball situation clearing or securing the ball…

Yes he is not a ball carrier and you don’t see him carrying the ball up over the advantage line…but he does the ground work people often don’t see…
Plus he is a awesome scrummiger….and gets the better of his opponent more times than not….
