  • So, it would seem that either Beast or CJ is penned to start at Loosehead – hopefully the former.

    Sharks must be ecstatic at having 3 Boks back, especially as it means that Dumond and Mathie need not start.

    Not sure its a good idea to release both Ruan AND Frans, but anyway, this is very bad news for WP. :twisted:

  • Steyn? Interesting. So I guess we know who the Sharks halfbacks will be next week

  • Imagine if we had them against Griquas. We would have scored 75 points!

    Odwa back also means Henno is likely to have another week’s break.

    Looking really good there.

    @hellbent (Comment 3) :
    Personally, I reckon we should be grooming Jordaan or Odwa for 15 anyway. Stefan is past it and Odwa doesn’t have the all-out pace a modern wing needs, while Jordaan has great feet, but doesn’t seem lightning quick either.

  • @Big Fish (Comment 5) : If Jordaan was hauled in by Wayne van Heerden, then his pace is questionable. In saying that, I do believe he is a 15 at club level. My thinking is that it is easier and less stressful to make the step up to CC level from clubs playing on the wing than at 15.

    I agree that either of them could be the answer there, Stefan to me is not adding anything. But where to play Steyn?

  • @robdylan (Comment 4) : Rob, to be honest I didn’t see much of him. Jordaan was much more involved, even if you take out his two tries. He wasn’t a failure, just didn’t really feature.

    For me, Swanepoel and Deysel were the players we need to stick with, they both gave us go forward with the ball, Swanepoel is going to be the “next find” along the lines of JP, Frans, Ruan, Bismarck, Brad, Waylon – the youngsters who have (and haven’t) come through the junior ranks and plucked from obscurity.

  • @hellbent (Comment 6) : I think Jordaan missed that try from lack of experience, if he had stopped & side-stepped, those 2 Griquas would have gone straight passed…ala Mitchell in “Top Gun” :grin: He was just trying tooo hard.

  • @hellbent (Comment 6) :
    To be fair though, it was actually Heinrich Stride and van Heerden who got back – I think they covered with intelligence more than speed. I couldn’t believe that van Heerden tackled Stefan and outsprinted Jordaan until I realised that it was both Stride and van Heerden involved.

    @hellbent (Comment 7) :
    Swanepoel looked very good – power and pace, and allowed Murray to run straight, with great effect.

    Have to see how he goes in a tighter game though.

  • @Big Fish (Comment 10) : Must say Murray had a much better game…didn’t run across the field and straightened the line…maybe the knock on the head helped or Bashford read the post I made the other day :lol: :lol: :lol:

    Murray seemed to play better as he got better ball, and played with more structure – maybe at this stage of his career he isn’t great without a 12 playing him into position?

  • @hellbent (Comment 13) : @Big Fish (Comment 14) :
    I think we had a better “structured” backline yesterday…maybe this is all these youngsters need….a chance to put their hands up BUT they DO need more experience before being thrown into the Big, Bad, World of S14. I just hope they can get it in the Vodacom Cup next year and some of our “dead wood” can be chopped off.

    Oi, I gave him credit for some nice play; though with the quality ball the forwards provided he cant be given too much credit.

    And don’t forget that he missed the tackle leading to the first try.

    Probably his best game, and thats the most telling point of all.

  • While there may not be back-up for Butch in the squad, which is a bit risky, I am happy that he is sticking with Butch.

    I just hope that he picks as close a team to the XV that he will pick against the All Black for this weekends match. Especially at 9 and 10.

    Let the guys play together as a unit, thump the Argentinians and then go on to narrowly beat the AB at Newlands.

    Okay so there is no risk then :cool:

    So now he just has to make sure he picks the 9&10 combo that he is going to use for the rest of the season. I really don’t mind if it is either Ricky Januarie or Fourie Du Preez, but please just let them be the same pairing in the coming weeks.
