I have some time on my hands and thought maybe I could use the stats that a friend sends me each week to indicate the top try and point scorers thus far in the 2008 Currie Cup
These figures may also help in easing the decision on whether to trade or not to trade and WHO to trade for the Currie Cup Fantasy League.
In the overall points standings Earl Rose is still having a great season and has added another 10 points to his tally this week moving his total up to 111. In second place Morne Steyn has managed to overtake Willem De Waal who has had a season ending injury.
It is interesting to note that amongst the top eight overall point scorers, there is one representative from each union.
The Overall Top 8 Point scorers are:
111 – Earl Rose
82 – Morne Steyn
75 – Willem De Waal
68 – Chris Rossouw
51 – Justin Peach
41 – Monty Dumond
40 – Conrad Barnard
31 – Riaan (True Blue) Smit
In the overall try stakes Jacques Botes is still out front with 6 but Rose has been joined in second by team mate Willie Wepener. John Daniels currently on three tries for the season is also the SA record holder for career Currie Cup tries on 77. Some may argue that there are 8 tries included in that number that were scored in the “Lower Bankfin cup competition in 2001” and therefore he is still only on 69 leaving him one try behind Breyton Paulse. Let’s hope Daniels scores two more tries this season to put the validity of his record beyond doubt.
The Overall Try stakes are as follows:
6 – Jacques Botes
4 – Earl Rose, Willie Wepener
3 – Rouan Cloete, Keegan Daniel, John Daniels, Danwell Demas, Wylie Human, Fabian Juries, Ernie Kruger, John Mametsa, Wynand Olivier, Dewald Pretorius, Jaco Pretorius, Wikus van Heerden, Jano Vermaak, Franco van der Merwe, Pedrie Wannenburg
Good luck with those trade decisions.Tweet
