Vodacom Western Province coach Allister Coetzee on Wednesday selected big Fijian wing Sereli Naqalevuki at outside centre for Saturday’s Absa Currie Cup match against the Falcons at Newlands (kick-off 15:00).

Naqelevuki played at the wing last week in the victory over the Cheetahs, but with centre Gcobani Bobo ruled out for the rest of the season due to pending shoulder surgery, Coetzee opted for the big man from the islands at Nr 13.

That means a return to the starting XV for veteran Wylie Human, who was on the bench last week. He will don the Nr 11 shirt. Centre Morgan Newman comes in on the bench.

Wicus Blaauw, who missed the previous two days’ training sessions, has been declared fit and will take his place at loosehead prop.

Veteran Springbok fullback Percy Montgomery is still not in the squad after he missed out last weekend due to a stomach bug.

Province will be looking for another haul of five points in order to keep their dream of a semi-final berth alive.

Vodacom WP:

15. Conrad Jantjes
14. Tonderai Chavhanga
13. Sireli Naqelevuki
12. Jean De Villiers (C)
11. Wylie Human
10. Peter Grant

8. Luke Watson
7. Francois Louw
6. Schalk Burger
5. Andries Bekker
4. Adriaan Fondse
3. Brian Mujati
2. Schalk Brits
1. Wicus Blaauw

Reserves:

16. Deon Fourie
17. JC Kritzinger
18. AJ Venter
19. Nick Koster
20. Bolla Conradie
21. Joe Pietersen
22. Morgan Newman

  • So much for resting/managing the Bok players. I suppose WP got such a fright after losing to the Valke that they don’t want to have a repeat of the first round

  • @Pokkel (Comment 11) :

There is a rumour in CT that if you beat a team well enough the second time around then you will be allowed to get your log points for the first round back from them.

  • OK forgive me putting up our youth teams playing the Luiperds this weekend. Myself loving to see our young talent climbing the tree.
    U21s

WP: Tiger Bax; Marcello Sampson, PJ Vermeulen, Dabeon Draghoender, Marvin Christians; Coenraad van Wyk, Dewaldt Duvenhage; Zandré Jordaan, Cameron Peverett, Conraad Britz, De Kock Steenkamp, eorge Earl ©, Eric Coetzee, Callie Visagie, Michael De Neuilly-Rice. Reserwes: Mark Goosen, Jean Rossouw, Martin Muller, Burger Schoeman, Stuart Commins, Matthew Rosslee, Dandre Gerber.

Interesting to see another 1981 Bok Danie Gerbers son , Dandre making the bench as a outside back. Danie think he is more of a 10. Look like Dewaldt Duvenhage have made WP his new home and I think he had a goodie last weekend in Osfontein against the Cheetahs U21s. Will be interesting to see what will happen once Conrad Hoffmann come back next year and surely Bolla will retired.

    U19s
WP: Martin du Toit; Kenwinn Wiener, Stokkies Hanekom, Johann Sadie, JJ Engelbrecht; Jurgen Visser, Leam Slatem; Tertius Daniller ©, Wimpie van der Walt, Ruben Johannes, Yaya Hartzenberg, Rynhardt Elstad, Brendan Kruger, Syfney Tobias, Alistair Vermaak. Reserwes: Yako Madoda, Kieran James, Stephan Greeff, Jakobus Rossouw, Louis de Jager, Nathanael Pekeur, Jean du Plessis.

Here we also have a 1981 Bok Errol Tobias son playing, Sydney. Also thye x WP flyhalf Stokkies Hanekom son and namesake playing with his Gimmie team mate and talented midfielder Johann Sadie. Good to see Hennie Danillers boetie Tertius captaining this side and I am sure this team is much better then the U19s log show at the moment.
