Centre Piet van Zyl could equal Jannie Coetzee’s record on Saturday for the most first-class appearences for the Boland Kavaliers.

SuperRugby reports that when Van Zyl leads the Kavaliers onto the field against the Lions in a Currie Cup match at Wellington on Saturday, it will be his 140th appearence for the Kavaliers.

This will equal Coetzee’s seven year record. Coetzee tops the log with a 140 matches for the Kavaliers. He was a flank forward and played between 1995 and 2001 for the Wellington-based side.

Van Zyl could therefore become the Boland’s top representative against Western Province at Wellington on September 29.

Boland’s most capt players are: 140 Jannie Coetzee, 139 Piet van Zylo, 137 Chris van der Merwe, 133 Henley du Plessis, 132 Fabian Brandt, 124 Antonius Verhoeven, 120 Dale Santon, 117 Elmo Wolfaardt, 115 Chris Potgieter, 112 Chris Koch, 107 Conrad Burke, 105 Richard Visagie, 104 Hein du Toit,, Randile Julies, 103 Tommy Dixon, 102 Kobus Meintjes (snr), Neil Papier, 101 Willem Koch, Frans Marais, Takkies Reitz.
