Western Province and Boland will be getting together somewhere this afternoon to see if WP can overhaul the Cheetahs and retake 4th place on the log.

Will WP manage to give Boland enough of a smack to take back that 4th spot AND have enough of a cusion for next weekends matches?

Or will WP not manage to get a BP at all,  effectively eliminating themselves from the play-offs, today?

  • And SARU’s final answer is…Wellington
    Sat, 27 Sep 2008 12:49

The South African Rugby Union (SARU) have confirmed that the Currie Cup fixture between Boland and Western Province (WP) on Saturday will take place in Wellington as scheduled, following a favourable pitch inspection on Saturday morning.

Due to the shocking drainage at Boland Stadium after heavy rains, disgruntled visiting unions prompted SARU to move the fixture to Newlands Stadium, following a statement by them late on Friday afternoon.

SARU then issued another statement on Friday evening saying the fixture would in fact take place in Wellington as scheduled, pending a pitch inspection by match referee Christie du Preez on Saturday morning.

Du Preez has thus ruled that the Boland Stadium field in Wellington does not constitute a danger to player safety, and that the Cavaliers’ Currie Cup match with WP will go ahead as scheduled at 15.00 (13.00 GMT) on Saturday.

  • Province play like real chokers at the moment. Maybe I was wrong and they do not really belong in the top four?

But, maybe they are banking on the Sharks beating the Lions without the Lions getting a point, then they will still have the last game against the Lions as a decider? So maybe they feel that way they can controll their destiny?

  • Take the LO and maul

    Watson goes over.

TMO asked to check for foul play and if the ball was grounded.

Watson didn’t ground it right away but then after a wrestle on the ground he did. it depends how the TMO decides to rule on holding the ball on the ground.
