Western Province coach Alistair Coetzee has named a full-strength line-up to take on the Lions in a do-or-die match at Newlands this weekend.

Flyhalf Peter Grant has been named to start, despite coming off injured against Boland in Wellington last week. Also in the team is regular skipper Jean de Villiers, forced to pull out at the eleventh hour last week after a bout of illness. Morgan Newman makes way for de Villiers at inside centre and joins veteran Percy Montgomery on the bench.

Ricky Januarie is back at scrumhalf this week, after been given the week off to get married. Bolla Conradie will be on the bench, whilst the unlucky Dewald Duvenage drops out of the squad entirely.

In the pack, regular tight-fivers Brian Mujati and Adriaan Fondse are both fit and take over from JC Kritzinger and AJ Venter respectively, with the latter named players on the bench. Schalk Brits gets a start at hooker, with Deon Fourie one of three front-row reserves on the bench. With AJ Venter named as the only second and back row reserve, we should probably expect Schalk Brits to spend some time amongst the loose forwards in the second half.

WP team to face the Lions:

15. Conrad Jantjes
14. Joe Pietersen
13. Sireli Naqelevuki
12. Jean De Villiers (Capt)
11. Wylie Human
10. Peter Grant
9. Ricky Januarie
8. Luke Watson
7. Francois Louw
6. Schalk Burger
5. Andries Bekker
4. Adriaan Fondse
3. Brian Mujati
2. Schalk Brits
1. Wicus Blaauw

Reserves:

16. Deon Fourie
17. JC Kritzinger
18. Schalk Ferreira
19. AJ Venter
20. Bolla Conradie
21. Percy Montgomery
22. Morgan Newman

Only one original Valie, the others you lot poached anyway, 1 from Zim Mujatsi, 1 rolling stone Wylie but at least he is closer to his roots now, Schalk & Januarie is as Kaaps as can be.

You do have quite a few Bolanders roots in your current team.

Im fairly sure I didn’t say they are from the ‘Lions’ areas but they were given a chance there and also made their names playing for the Lions.Which is a indicment of Province being fairly oblvious to the talent that they had.

Never easy for WeePee to klap Boland, lets call it the small vs big syndrome and it always deliver a beauty between the two of them. Give credit to Boooeland.

The Welpies on Newlands, something totally different for our lot. The Valies struggle with the SuidOoster.

He just needs to work on his kicking out of hand…else he will never make it into the Bokke side…

Yip…Kankow did that and in his 24th or 25th gained he got tackled right back to 21/22 by Ludik…

And I was not talking about when Killian went for the intercept and Kanko ran down the touchline with the ball…or when Fourie went inside and the ball went to Kankow and only was able to catch him when he was a good few meters across the gain line and passed to JPP to score….
