Griquas coach Dawie Theron has been forced to loan a player from his Central Unions neighbours, the Free State Cheetahs, to fill the injury gaps in his depleted squad ahead of their final Currie Cup match of the season – against the Sharks in Durban on Saturday.
Theron has called up wing Egon Seconds for the injured Bjorn Basson, who is nursing tender ribs, according to www.rugby365.com.
Centre Alwyn Hollenbach, on loan from the Cheetahs, will start his first Currie Cup game for Griquas and partners Riaan Viljoen in the midfield. Viljoen fills the void left by the injured Herkie Kruger.
Flank Stephan Gerber replaces Frans Viljoen on the blindside of the scrum. During last week’s loss to the Blue Bulls Viljoen took a knock to the arm that he fractured earlier in the season and he is being rested as a precaution.
Viljoen misses what would have been his final game for the Griquas, as he has signed with the Cheetahs for next season.
In the only other change to the starting line up, Jacques Lombaard replaces Brendon Snyman at lock.
Griquas: 15 Conrad Barnard, 14 Egon Seconds, 13 Alwyn Hollenbach, 12 Riaan Viljoen, 11 MJ Mentz, 10 Naas Olivier, 9 Sarel Pretorius, 8 Gareth Krause (captain), 7 Stephan Gerber, 6 Rohan Kitshoff, 5 Jacques Lombaard, 4 Wayne van Heerden, 3 Bees Roux, 2 Hans van Dyk, 1 Steph Roberts.
Replacements: 16 Dean Hopp, 17 Ruaan du Preez, 18 Brendon Snyman, 19 Tyrone Holmes, 20 Dougie Helmuth, 21 Wouter Watermeyer, 22 Gavin Passens.
