Toulon and Stade Français were both fined on Thursday for a mass brawl which overshadowed their French Top 14 clash last month, the league’s disciplinary committee (LNR) announced.

The two French clubs will have to pay 5,000 Euros (US$ 6,900) each as reparations for an almighty punch-up that took place during their opening Top 14 clash on September 12, which continued to spill over from the field.

Toulon prop David Banquet and Stade counterpart Rodrigo Roncero were suspended for 10 days, while Toulon’s South African scrumhalf Norman Jordaan was banned for 20 days for punching an opponent.

  • @Baldrick (Comment 3) : Actually yes. If you watch the clip, you will find that he threw one guy down by grabbing his collar and whipping him around, dashed off to the next bloke who was off balance, pushed him and then to cap it all, did throw an ineffective punch at the third( also off balance). This last punch only landed on the guys chest and could not even have hurt him.

The whole thing to me was blown way out of proportion, almost like this WWE smackdown wrestling(pathetic) on TV. Just my opinion.

  • As entertaining as it was, this kind of thing does not belong on a rugby field. 20 days is a bit light for me.

Some oke from Northampton got 17 weeks (or something) for accidentally put a finger in an opponents eye. But is appealling the ban.

  • @McLovin (Comment 5) : i think that they got off light because it was france. they have some serious bloody fights there, go to youtube, type in “french rugby fights” or something like that and you will see some of the meanest brawls ever.

these okes are woes, french club rugby is probably the dirtiest in the world.
