The Griffons, hoping to win promotion from South Africa’s First Division to the Currie Cup Premier Division were dealt a cruel double blow on Tuesday.
Rugby 365 reports that the Welkom-based outfit will be without exciting Cheetahs flyhalf Jacques-Louis Potgieter and outside back Hennie Daniller for Friday’s promotion/relegation game against the Boland Cavaliers in Wellington.
According to OFM Sport Potgieter broke a bone in his hand, while Daniller has signed a contract with a French club side.
The Griffons will also have to do without their own star flyhalf Kennedy Tsimba, who is struggling with a groin injury sustained in the First Division Final – when they beat the Leopards 31-26 in Potchefstroom.
“We now have to include Jandré Blom at flyhalf,” Griffons coach Harry Pienaar said.
Pienaar made three changes to his starting line-up for the first of the two promotion/relegation matches.
Blom will turn out at flyhalf in place of the injured Tsimba (hamstring) and Potgieter (hand).
Injured Albert Parsons is replaced at flank by Shane Botha, while Jaco Louw comes in at tighthead prop at the expense of Gert Greyling. Greyling moves to the bench, while Nicky Steyn covers for Botha on the bench.
