Cavaliers without key players

The Boland Cavaliers will be without loosehead prop Janro van Niekerk and lock Bradley Mockford when they face the Griffons Friday in the last promotion/relegation match at Welkom.

SAPA reports that the Cavaliers scored an easy 54-15 win over the Northern Free Staters when the two teams clashed in Wellington last Friday.

Van Niekerk left the field with an ankle injury 13 minutes before the final whistle, while Mockford was stretchered off the field in what seemed to be a serious neck injury.

It was confirmed on Monday that Van Niekerk tore ligaments, while Mockford injured a muscle in the neck.

Jean Botha, who is at home at loosehead and tighthead prop, seems to be the obvious replacement for Van Niekerk, while Cecil Kemp should stand in for Morckford.

Meanwhile, Griffons coach Harry Pienaar believes his Northern Free Staters should give a good account of themselves, despite the thumping they received last Friday.

They are also holding thumps that flyhalf Kennedy Tsimba will past a fitness test. If declared fit, he could just make things more difficult for the Wellington outfit.

  • Thought Piet van Zyl is gone to the Cheetahs but he may return for Boland in the CC

    Qoute:
“Piet is available for the Cheetahs for the Super 14, but indicated he is willing to play for us in the Currie Cup competition,” Davids said

Why Rassie dont use him for the Stormers dont make any sense at all.

  • @robdylan (Go Sharks!) (Comment 19) : They didnt last year. To be honest I am nervous about this one. Most of this lot played last year CravenWeek for WeePee at Stellenbosch and the Ebersohns cut them to pieces in the main game. Hope they learned from that experiense. Luckily we have a Gimmie lot in that midfield and they will give the Sharks a headache make no mistake. Johann Sadie a laaitie that got provincial colours in 5 different sports in U13 and full of skills and ball. WeePee contracted him while still in High School and time for payback.

Probably the u/21 trophy I think. I can already hear them on Monday. “Ag we don’t care, at least we won the u/21 trophy and the Sharks weren’t even in that, so the Sharks must be kak.”
