Toulouse utility back Maxime Medard was the only debutante named on Wednesday, in coach Marc Lievremont’s 23-man France squad set to face Argentina next weekend in Marseille.
Rugby 365 reports that the 21-year-old was the leading French try-scorer in last season’s Top 14 tournament, with an impressive tally of 14 tries.
Lievremont did not recall stalwart flyhalf Frederic Michalak, who has returned to France after playing for South Africa’s recent Currie Cup champions (the Sharks) for the past year.
Michalak is however set to return to the Toulouse squad for Saturday’s Top 14 match against Brive.
Sale duo Sebastien Chabal and Lionel Faure were also named in the squad, along with Tigers hooker Benjamin Kayser, while wing Vincent Clerc is still unavailable due to injury.
France host Argentina on November 8 after winning only one of their last seven encounters – after which they are scheduled to face the Pacific Islanders and Australia on consecutive weekends.
