Northampton Saints today announced that Brett Sharman has joined the club from the Blue Bulls
Roland Mercer reports for the Guinness Premiership website that having worked his way through the Bulls’ youth system Sharman, a 21-year-old hooker, has been a regular in the Pretoria outfit’s Vodacom Cup teams for the past two seasons. This year he played eight times in the competition – which runs parallel to the Super 14 – including the final, which the Bulls won.
He has been brought into the squad to cover for the absence of Stuart Friswell, who is currently rehabilitating from injury, and is available for immediate selection. Sharman also adds to the pool of young English hookers at Franklin’s Gardens thanks to his British passport.
“Hooker is a specialist position in which we presently need some extra cover that Brett will provide,” explained Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder. “Paul Shields and Joe Gray have played well while Dylan Hartley has been away with England, but our reserves will run extremely thin if one of them picks up an injury.”

so is anyone keeping track of exactly how many Bulls youngsters have flown the coop?
Rassie van Vuuren, Brett Sharman, Hendrik Roodt, Juandre Kruger – that’s virtually an entire tight five, just off the top of my head.
Oh well, at least they’ll have Derick Kuun to play VC for them next year.
But i fought vey haf very goot structures and that it are like a groot famielie at Loftus?
@PJLD (Comment 2) :
you should see the bitching on their site about the players and coaches leaving,
their kicking coach Vlok Cilliers has left as well (Pukke or UJ)
@KSA Shark © (Comment 3) : has he actually left? I though he was just helping out there.
BTW, you see Rudy Joubert has gone to coach PUK?
Hopefully the beginning of the end for the Bulls.
I wish they end in the bottom half of the S14 next year.
ooh – and they had to post a notice warning their bloggers to behave. I predict it won’t be long before they shut down their blog
@wpw (Comment 5) : they have a horrible draw, but I reckon they’ll do ok.
@robdylan (Comment 6) : that’ll be cool
@PJLD (Comment 8) : Careful what you wish for
@robdylan (Comment 4) :
He is there until the end of the Varsity Cup. When does that end though. The article i read on it was a little ambigious on the subject.

Must have been part of some secret plan many years ago to get some intellect in PTA. Maybe there was an incentive scheme of sorts to uproot your family from Dbn and settle in PTA.

@McLovin (Comment 67) :
Strange that.
I would make a drop worth more than a PK or conversion.

@KSA Shark © (Comment 69) : PK = 2 points

Now all you need to do is say “England will win this by a mile” during half-time at Twickenham.
@McLovin (Comment 80) :
:FOOK:
The guys at SB STILL have not updated last nights results.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 82) : The tournament is a bit of a joke really. Lots of crap teams. They could easily just have 2 semi’s and a final.
NZ, Aus & Eng even do a league tri-nations. But with a final.
Aus score….
@McLovin (Comment 84) :
So you mean the winner will be about as worthy of being called WCs as the Kiwis were in 1987?
