Former Springbok technical adviser Eddie Jones has praised Conrad Jantjes as his man of the Springbok season, and gushed with praise at the Boks’ 42-6 demolition of England at Twickenham on Saturday.
SuperRugby reports that Jones, a former Wallaby coach who now is Director of Rugby at Saracens, wrote in his column in Afrikaans Sunday newspaper Sondag that the recipe for success was simple for the Boks.
“Any one of Ruan Pienaar, Schalk Burger or Ricky Januarie could have been the man of the match, but Ricky deserves it.
” Even though the Boks didn’t play well in their previous two games, the traditional game against the English brought the best out of them and Martin Johnson’s side had to bow to a much better side.
“The Boks kept things simple and did the basics amazingly well. The way they played for each other in the game, was a telling remark about their commitment and every player was ready to bleed for the man next to him.
“Bakkies was the fire in the belly again, and Schalk ended the season with an exclamation mark next to his name, but the player who has impressed me the entire season has been fullback Conrad Jantjes.
“He might not have done anything exceptional, but he was the most consistent player in the Springbok team this season and has established himself as the perfect successor to Percy Montgomery.”
England flyhalf Danny Cipriani is not up to playing international rugby and Jones slammed his performance.
Jones said that he didn’t believe Cipriani was up to modern international rugby.
“I repeat what I said last week – Danny Cipriani is a long way from being an international flyhalf,” Jones wrote, “I have not seen him play well on one occasion I have watched him.”Tweet
