Top English rugby club, Saracens, are heading to the Cape early next year and fixtures against Super 14 side, the Stormers, and Currie Cup team, Boland Kavaliers have already been set.
The top English Premier outfit will first play a friendly against the Stormers at Newlands on January 24 before taking on the Kavaliers at venue still be confirmed on January 31.
“Yes, the match is definitely on,” Boland CEO Piet Bergh said.
Bergh said the Saracens match will not take place at Wellington, but possibly at Worcester, Robertson or the West Coast.
“We also need to take our big matches to our supporters,” Bergh said.
Meanwhile, new signing Luvo Sogidashe will probably get a chance on the wing against Saracens.
And with lock Brad Mockford back at the London Irish Acadamy untill the start of the Currie Cup season, new locks Nico du Plessis and Rito Hlungwane could fight it out to be Nico Esterhuyze’s partner.
Du Plessis and Hlungwane were both contracted at Western Province last season.
Du Plessis was one of Chester Williams’ Emerging Boks stars at Romania earlier this year. He could well get the nod for the Kavaliers’ first friendly of the season.
