This is short and sweet. Can South Africa wipe out the 413 Run lead by Australia before getting bowled out?

Australia managed to put on 91 Runs in the morning session with their last three wickets.

Is this a sign that the pitch is very batsmen friendly or that our attack was having a rest?

Australia – 375 & 319

South Africa – 281 & 0/0

There’s been a shower during the lunch break. “The covers are on, there was a bit of rain early in the lunch break but it has fined up again,” says Brydon. “Not sure if there’ll be a delayed start but if so it should be pretty short.”

I am relying on cricinfo today.

Where is Klempie and his stream this morning? I am jealous.

  • Smith moves to 7 and that is his 6000th test run.

    MacKenzie is on 10.

nice slow start by the guys, not rushing things.

It’s got overcast suddenly and the rain has begun to fall. It’s heavy enough to force the players off the ground. The groundstaff are bring the covers out but they’re having a tough time because of the strong wind.

  • 10.11 am (SA TIME): The rain has stopped. The covers are being taken off and the ground staff are removing water by dragging a rope around the outfield. Play should restart sooner rather than later.

  • Play hardly restarts and then it starts raining again. Only 10 balls were bowled.

We are in for another delay here. It’s raining again in Perth and the batsmen have raced off the field. The Australians, however, are staying their ground, expecting the interruption to not last for too long

Is it just me or do the commentators sound like they are trying to make SA sound only to happy to get off the pitch. the batsmen have raced off the field.

Smith is not wasting anytime in getting off the pitch is he?

What a day of Test cricket. Australia began with a 322 run lead and their tail extended it towards 413. Haddin played a magnificent innings and, by the time he was done, few gave South Africa a chance.

Those chances reduced further when McKenzie fell cheaply but the innings was repaired by Smith and Amla who shared a partnership of 153 for the second wicket. Australia fought back by dismissing both of them in quick succession but Kallis and de Villiers have reduced the target to below 200.

South Africa will begin the final day needing 187 more to win. Australia need seven wickets. If South Africa pull it off it will be the second highest run-chase in history. Australia will feel if they can get Kallis and de Villiers early, they’ll be able to run through an inexperienced lower-order.

  • Yeah, it’s up to these two guys to do the hard work. We’re well on top psychologically and have to keep up the pressure.

  • Now imagine how much pressure JP Duminy must be under in his first test match. I hope he contributes with the bat. Kallis owes us a beeeg score – cant remember when last he won a test match for us while chasing down a score.
