The ACT Brumbies will likely have to wait another year for Matt Giteau’s return to Canberra.
The Canberra Times reports that according to West Australian media reports, Giteau has told the Western Force he will play for the club in 2009 after giving up his attempts to exit his contract a season early.
Force management reportedly spoke with Giteau during his US holiday and he agreed to return to Perth for a third season.
However the Brumbies will remain confident they can lure Giteau back home from 2010.
Giteau has been unhappy at the club since his sponsorship deal with Firepower began to unravel last year.
He has also reportedly been at odds with Force coach John Mitchell, whose abrasive style has led to his own position being questioned.
For Giteau to exit his contract, he would have had to prove his sponsorship deal was linked to his playing contract.
Proving that would likely have required legal action, which would be almost impossible to conclude before Giteau is due to resume training at the Force.Tweet
