The highly successful SA under 20 coach Eric Sauls has been appointed as coaching coordinator of the newly established Blue Bulls Rugby Academy which will be operating in association with TUKS Sport.
Sauls’ role at the Academy will be hands on coaching as well as to manage and direct the coaches and he says he really looks forward to this new challenge.
“It is wonderful to work with the Blue Bulls and the University of Pretoria who have the necessary infrastructure as well as resources. There are some good structures that are in place and after consultation with the required parties I will look to see where I can build on and add value to these existing structures.”
Sauls was the head coach of the SA under 21 team that won the World Cup in 1999 and in 2000 he coached the Blue Bulls’ B team who had players of the caliber like Richard Bands, Danie Rossouw, Jacques Olivier and Danie van Schalkwyk in its ranks.
“In 2000 the Bulls’ B team won the President’s Cup but unfortunately the SA under 21′s lost against New Zealand in the final of the Junior World Cup.”
In 2002 Sauls took charge of the SWD Eagles’ Currie Cup team and from 2003-2005 he coached in Italy and Ireland. Thereafter he was appointed as the SA under 19 coach and since 2008 he is the head coach of the SA under 20 team.
“In Ireland I was involved with Leinster’s Academy and I coordinated quite a number of coaches at the College. It was a great experience and I will definitely apply what I have learned from them at the Blue Bulls Rugby Academy.”Tweet
