Me2 aka Mama Shark

A blogger’s perspective

Hi everyone…as most of you know, I am, as far as I know, the senior member (in age) of Sharksworld!
Since we don’t have much to chat about on a Friday (that is until the S14 begins in earnest), I thought I would jot down some of my thoughts about blogging……

It is nearly two years since I got adsl (in order to “Skype” with Mary), and found the Sharks’ website blog and then later Sharksworld……what a difference it made to my life!

I was lonely and feeling starved of conversation with young people, my daughter being in London & not seeing as much of my son, who had moved into our granny flat …….but most of all, I was missing watching my kids play their sport and talking about sport with them!

At first I just read…..then I braved a comment or two…next thing, I had a whole lot of people to chat to, not only about my beloved Sharks, but rugby as a whole! This ole lady learned a lot more about the game and, as a result, enjoyed watching it more and more.

I found everyone willing to help clear up my ignorance, in the most patient way, especially about the laws, and when the elvs came along…..well ….. what a wonderful medium through which to discuss and debate and try to clarify what was going on!!

Then there are the wonderful “cyber friendships” that have sprung up during the passed 2 years. I am not going to mention names…….as there are far too many for me to remember! You all know who you are ;-) .

People from all over the world chatting away to each other about rugby, sometimes serious, sometimes very serious, sometimes “taking the mickey”; and, then, the times when we just catch up on family & other news; find people with common interests, out side of rugby; watch a little cricket together; and even tell the odd joke or two (some good and others…well……??).

It has been an awesome experience!

Thanks to ALL of you for a wonderful relationship and here’s to South African Teams doing well in the Super 14.

No matter whom you support, how well or badly they fare…….keep the faith!

SHARKS FOREVER!

(Sorry could not resist that!)

  • @try time (Comment 2) :
Considering there are 5 SA Super 14 franchises who all have cheerleaders, by my reckoning, if you applied you talents to personally, properly assessing say 2 of them a week, I think you will have enough to write about for the entire season.

Didnt the Stormers have some male cheerleaaders parading in Sailor suits at some stage?, could be interesting….

And about Jean Deysel, I just looked at the pics about 5 min. ago. If the rest of him looks as good as his arms, I would advise anyone to stay away from him in a match.

  • Me2 True. Also some credit to Rob here. Think he do he very good job with the way he mod this place. Myself post on a few forums but surely the differense between the goon ones and the bad ones is that you get you just plain stirring , sarcastic ones like Keo and PR and the ones where you can share info and have a nice chat without some bitch fights. Called it the agreement to differs from one another and still have a useful conversation. Called it the rugby spirit, war on the field but still be able to share a beer when the end whistle goes.

  • @PJLD (Comment 49) :
Myself try to explain to Walters lot the interesting thing about Giniels dad. Been married to Jacques Theron, the canoeers mother. Jacques also a Paarl Gimmie and the first Gautenger (he stays there after he left Maties) to win the KWV Berg River Canoe marathon. Also in the news a few years back when he put on his Landrover “Springbok Canoeer” and was forced by the Olimpic lot to remove the Springbok name from his vehicle.

When they build Paarl Gyms rugby clubhouse some years back they invited Smittie (Geniels dad) to the opening ceromy to raise funds. Well he did not stay long and attack the school master for only praising Paarl Gyms rugby players and leaving out the other sports people. They sure did correct that mistake pretty quick and you can see all sport people getting recodnition.

anyway just some stuff you wont read in a newspaper. Myself living in the same street and knowing both his parents sure they are special people and my kids sure of green with jealocy when we drive past the de Villiers and the cars standing in the street.

Giniel still living in Stellenbosch and only goes to Europe once the rally season starts over there. He did not play rugby because he was a smallies guy and Jacques got into canoeing because he had harsingskuddings in rugby and Chris Beukes, a BergRiver Canoe golden oldie and teacher at Gim got him into the sport.

Sure they both have our secret ingredient called Gimmie Guts and we really are proud on this guys.
