Hi everyone…as most of you know, I am, as far as I know, the senior member (in age) of Sharksworld!
Since we don’t have much to chat about on a Friday (that is until the S14 begins in earnest), I thought I would jot down some of my thoughts about blogging……
It is nearly two years since I got adsl (in order to “Skype” with Mary), and found the Sharks’ website blog and then later Sharksworld……what a difference it made to my life!
I was lonely and feeling starved of conversation with young people, my daughter being in London & not seeing as much of my son, who had moved into our granny flat …….but most of all, I was missing watching my kids play their sport and talking about sport with them!
At first I just read…..then I braved a comment or two…next thing, I had a whole lot of people to chat to, not only about my beloved Sharks, but rugby as a whole! This ole lady learned a lot more about the game and, as a result, enjoyed watching it more and more.
I found everyone willing to help clear up my ignorance, in the most patient way, especially about the laws, and when the elvs came along…..well ….. what a wonderful medium through which to discuss and debate and try to clarify what was going on!!
Then there are the wonderful “cyber friendships” that have sprung up during the passed 2 years. I am not going to mention names…….as there are far too many for me to remember! You all know who you are .
People from all over the world chatting away to each other about rugby, sometimes serious, sometimes very serious, sometimes “taking the mickey”; and, then, the times when we just catch up on family & other news; find people with common interests, out side of rugby; watch a little cricket together; and even tell the odd joke or two (some good and others…well……??).
It has been an awesome experience!
Thanks to ALL of you for a wonderful relationship and here’s to South African Teams doing well in the Super 14.
No matter whom you support, how well or badly they fare…….keep the faith!
(Sorry could not resist that!)
