I note with some dismay that yet another deadline for the naming of the SA Super 14 squads has come and (almost) gone with nary a sign of any announcement whatsoever.
According to a press release from SA Rugby on 13 January 2009, which, incidentally, still graces the front page of their website, “The squads of the five South African Vodacom Super 14 teams will be named on February 6″. Well, it’s Feb the 6th today – I know this, because it’s my mate Chris King’s birthday, but I digress – and there’s no sign of the announced squads. I know this might seem like nit-picking, since we all know for the most part who will be in each squad. The players named in the squad don’t really seem to represent any sort of binding agreement between the franchise and the tournament organisers either, but if they would just make the announcements, it would give us something decent to write about, which would make a nice change.
So come on, SARU. Save yourselves from yet another helping of face-egg and just announce the 5 30-man squads like you said you would. Before the end of today, because that’s what you committed to. Remember, the New Zealanders had their squads announced back in December 2008. That’s last year, guys… Do you still even have those calendars?Tweet
