The Stormers have named their side to face the Reds at Newlands this weekend. Inspirational captain Jean de Villiers has been named in the side, along with Fijian winger Sireli Naqelevuki. Both will need to pass late fitness tests, though.

The balance of the squad is unchanged from the unit that went down narrowly to the Sharks. Media speculation that people’s hero Luke Watson might get a start seems unfounded, with Francois Louw again named, along with Schalk Burger and Duane Vermeulen.

Dylan des Fountain will operate at inside centre should de Villiers be forced out, while Nick Koster is the man on standby for Naqelevuki in the number 11 jersey.

Stormers 22:

15. Conrad Jantjes
14. Tonderai Chavhanga
13. Gcobani Bobo
12. Jean De Villiers (Capt) / Dylan Des Fountain
11. Sireli Naqelevuki / Nick Koster
10. Peter Grant
9. Ricky Januarie
8. Duane Vermeulen
7 Francois Louw
6. Schalk Burger
5. Andries Bekker
4. Adriaan Fondse
3. Brian Mujati
2. Schalk Brits
1. JD Moller

Reserves

16. Deon Fourie
17. Wicus Blaauw
18. AJ Venter
19. Luke Watson
20. Bolla Conradie
21. Dylan Des Fountain / Nick Koster
22. Percy Montgomery

  • Why is Rassie putting out his teams so early? What has happened to all the cloak & dagger stuff?

  • Having looked at what the Reds are fielding I think the Stormers should walk this with comfort.

Why then risk Kalie and Jean?

Let them recover properly rather than do even more damage.

  • @blackshark (Comment 22) :

That is also a good idea.

And going with the trend of this last weekend, then only use the bench players that you need and unless you have an injury leave them on the bench for 80mins.

  • although rassie has publicly defended luke, it is interesting that he has left him on the bench again. maybe as a proud bok player rassie has taken lukes actions personally and has decided to spoil lukes chances of getting call up. if this is the case, i am a rassie fan.

And hopefully Bobo is not captain should JdV not play…you might just lose against the Reds (reference to Valke and Griekwas)
