Stormers leave PJLD going eh?

Can somebody please help me out here.

Please help me to understand what I, as a Stormers supporter am supposed to be feeling after watching The Stormers vs The Reds game on Friday night.

I settled into my seat  early and checked out the scene, The Reds were on the field about 2 minutes after their bus parked off outside, I don’t scheme they had any autograph hunters hounding them. After a while The Stormers took to the field and went through the motions, all the talk about secrets and undercover training seemed to have some substance to it as The Stormers didn’t even seem to run anything in the warmup, just the odd lineout here and players running around over there.

Anyhoo gametime came and went I was left feeling like someone who ate sand, full but just not satisfied.

While the crowd spent a lot of time wooping and hollering at the antics on the field, nothing from the Stormers showed that they could be serious top 4 contenders.Sure there were glimpses of hope on attack but nothing to make you go “ Oh so that’s what Rassie has been hiding” Seriously, it seems as if the media blackout that Coach Erasmus is employing is to hide the obvious defiencies in the Stormers all round game.

The Stormers at times defended like Trojans, this was evident in Tonderai Chavhangas scramble to stop a certain try(the television angle did it no justice)but their inability to play combine defence and attack is going to leave them languishing in the bottom half of the table, with a 20 point margin and the bonus point on offer The Stormers, instead of tuning the Reds “ thanks for coming” decided to be nice and gift them 19 unanswered points including a 4 try BP and 1 for losing within 7.How nice.

Can someone please explain to me how Rassie, who is supposed to be an astute rugby brain allow his team to serve up this kind of tripe? We as Stormers supporters were promised a lot this year but it seems as if it may just end up being more of the same.

I could only take 3 positives out of that game, and I had to look hard. One was the look on Jean DeVilliers face when the Reds dotted down their first try, I’ve only seen him partially miffed once when Frans Steyn didn’t pass a ball but on Saturday he was livid. The second was the loose trio who looked a lot more complete and balanced and the third, well I honestly forgot the third while typing the first two because it really was an arb point.

The Stormers play the The Blues this weekend and they are not going to roll over and play dead. That nonsense that got served up on Friday is not going to fly.

PS: PaarlBok, i spoke to Claytie and he is still spewing too much profanities to put something safe on the site.He promised you something good though.

  • Rassie is abviousley not quite the Messiah that the WP supporters make him out to be.
    Still no props.
Brits is an excellent player, but only an average hooker.
Is it really Bekkers job to make clearing kicks under pressure? Who was doing the hard work upfront while Bekker was playing flyhalf?
    Januarie ain’t FDP.
Grants out of hand kicks don’t go more than 20m’s.
Jantjes is in poor form. All he does is kick or try to goose step then falls over.

Fondse , Schalk, Puke, Duane, JDV, Bobo, Fiji and Chavanga played well.

  • yeah… too many negatives in that game.
    Vermeulen was grrreeeat.
Bolla should be forced to retire, never have I seen such crap in my life.
Please give Perce the 15 jersey until jantjes gets some form back.
    Luke was good, sadly.
And Fondse is really starting to grow on me.

  • @Loosehead (Comment 1) : That ball should never have gone to Bekker, that was more Ricky’s fault than Bekker’s. Although Bekker should have had his common sense to be a forward and do what forwards do well… take it up.
I’ve never seen someone toss a ball up so high to kick it.

  • The Stormers were very poor I’m afraid.

I drove a few km’s to watch the game (DSTV compact – no rugby channel) only to wonder when the team was gonna ‘haal uit en wys’

    Didn’t happen…

  • Stormers fans can take some good out of their game… Defence was outstanding (for 65 min). If your defence is good for 80 min you will win most games

  • Yea tend to agree.

It seems we still lack the ability to play for more than a quarter of the game.

I would say our biggest problem is the ability to hang onto the ball. And given we supposedly have SA’s premeir fetcher and that other tosser we should be very competitive on the ground. Just doesn’t seem to happen.

The teams also looked really unfit heading into the last quarter.

  • have plenty of answers to this article:

    1. they are conditioned to start later (i think garth said sth like that on Friday),
    2. you only play as the opposition allows (ie. opposition from the bottom of the log – your team plays like bottom loggers);
    3. wind – was there any wind on friday – sure there was;
    4. lack of quality warm-ups;
    5. aren’t stormers in some re-building phase (like lions eg. – i am sure they can find sth)

Provincejoulekkading – do not despair – the competition not over yet.

(ok. this was my kind word for the day

YOUR default pick for round two was the Lions.

Everyone’s default picks are seperated and everyones first default will be the Lions, regardless of which round they forget to make the pick in, the 2nd default will be the Blues and so on in alphabetical order.

…… except for about 10 hours a day when I have to be on Sharksworld and then don’t bother me for at least 48hours a week during rugby season which because of the international calendar – lasts pretty much ALL year and THEN realise that any holiday/travel will be decided by what rugby is on, live or televised.

Who got the better deal I wonder ?

We have season tickets so there is no problem for us to get tickets for the game.

  • @rekinek (Comment 110) :

As a season ticket holder you get first choice for your Lions ticket. If you do not take the option then the ticket goes on sale to the public. That goes for both the Lions games in Dbn.

    Just some side info.
In May of last year all non-season ticket seat information (numbers etc) were given to computicket to prepare for Lions tour sales.

When I was home in July I wanted to move my tickets and they (KZNRU ticket office) strongly adviced against it as they had already given the info to computicket.

Also if anyone bought NEW season tickets this year then they would not get the option on the Lions tickets. (obviously to prevent some scalper buying a 2 grand season ticket and then flogging his Lions tickets for 10 grand.

The Sharks v Lions tickets were out in early Feb I believe and the Bok v lions tickets are either out now or due to be out soon. I am refering to the season ticket holders’ Lions tickets, not sure when the public ones go on sale. (I think they may already be on sale)

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 113) : The Computicket sale started yesterday. The tests ones (ie Ellis Park & Newlands) got sold out immediately. There are still Sharks v Lions available (or at least were last night).

What I could not understand was that there was no option to buy at Kings Park at all. Like no link to click..

  • Bavarian Select vs RC GoldBet Innsbruck

    By: Stephen Neill

Rugby Club GoldBet Innsbruck takes to the field for the first time in 2009 this coming Saturday, when they take on a Bayern Selection XV in Nürnberg.

These matches are very important for the Innsbruckers, who have not played together as a 15 since the 29th of November, when they defeated Vienna Celtic in the Austrian Bundesliga. Their enforced winter break has not stopped Innsbruck training through January and February, but in truth there can be no substitute for competitive rugby, so the Tyroleans are relishing the trip north into Germany.

This friendly against the Bayern XV is the return fixture from the match played in August 2008, which RCI won 35-19 in a highly entertaining game at Hatting in Tirol. The scoreline in that fixture was mainly down to stronger RCI replacements coming off the bench and stretching the Bayern team as the match wore on in hot conditions. With the match being played on home turf for the Germans, and Innsbruck likely to be rusty from the winter break, all indicators point to a close, exciting encounter when the sides meet again.

Coach Jo Trojer is no doubt anxious to get his team back on the field after the months of inactivity: “This match against the Bayern Selection will give us a chance to see where we are at the moment in terms of fitness and match sharpness, as we build to the opening Bundesliga fixture at the end of March. I’m also looking forward to giving our younger players some valuable experience against what we know will be a good Bayern side”.

    Match Date: 28 Feb
    Kick Off: 3pm
    Location: Nürnberg, Germany
