Can somebody please help me out here.
Please help me to understand what I, as a Stormers supporter am supposed to be feeling after watching The Stormers vs The Reds game on Friday night.
I settled into my seat early and checked out the scene, The Reds were on the field about 2 minutes after their bus parked off outside, I don’t scheme they had any autograph hunters hounding them. After a while The Stormers took to the field and went through the motions, all the talk about secrets and undercover training seemed to have some substance to it as The Stormers didn’t even seem to run anything in the warmup, just the odd lineout here and players running around over there.
Anyhoo gametime came and went I was left feeling like someone who ate sand, full but just not satisfied.
While the crowd spent a lot of time wooping and hollering at the antics on the field, nothing from the Stormers showed that they could be serious top 4 contenders.Sure there were glimpses of hope on attack but nothing to make you go “ Oh so that’s what Rassie has been hiding” Seriously, it seems as if the media blackout that Coach Erasmus is employing is to hide the obvious defiencies in the Stormers all round game.
The Stormers at times defended like Trojans, this was evident in Tonderai Chavhangas scramble to stop a certain try(the television angle did it no justice)but their inability to play combine defence and attack is going to leave them languishing in the bottom half of the table, with a 20 point margin and the bonus point on offer The Stormers, instead of tuning the Reds “ thanks for coming” decided to be nice and gift them 19 unanswered points including a 4 try BP and 1 for losing within 7.How nice.
Can someone please explain to me how Rassie, who is supposed to be an astute rugby brain allow his team to serve up this kind of tripe? We as Stormers supporters were promised a lot this year but it seems as if it may just end up being more of the same.
I could only take 3 positives out of that game, and I had to look hard. One was the look on Jean DeVilliers face when the Reds dotted down their first try, I’ve only seen him partially miffed once when Frans Steyn didn’t pass a ball but on Saturday he was livid. The second was the loose trio who looked a lot more complete and balanced and the third, well I honestly forgot the third while typing the first two because it really was an arb point.
The Stormers play the The Blues this weekend and they are not going to roll over and play dead. That nonsense that got served up on Friday is not going to fly.
PS: PaarlBok, i spoke to Claytie and he is still spewing too much profanities to put something safe on the site.He promised you something good though.Tweet
