Richie McCaw was today passed fit to lead the Crusaders against the Hurricanes at AMI Stadium on Friday night.
The CRFU reports that McCaw suffered a head knock against the Chiefs in the Crusaders’ first-round victory and sat out last week’s last-minute defeat to the Brumbies in Canberra.
However, he has successfully passed the medical staff’s concussion protocols and neuropsychological tests and he will be back in the No7 jersey against the Hurricanes, with George Whitelock dropping to the reserves bench.
McCaw’s All Blacks team-mate, lock Brad Thorn, has recovered from his heel injury and will also play.
However, halfback Andy Ellis did not complete training with the team today and will not play. His place will be taken by Kahn Fotuali’i, with Tyson Keats coming on to the bench.
Corey Flynn has a broken arm and is likely to be out for the rest of the season. His place at hooker will be taken by Jason Macdonald, who played his first game for the Crusaders as Flynn’s replacement against the Brumbies last weekend. Dan Perrin comes into the squad as cover.
Fullback Leon MacDonald, who injured his shoulder against the Chiefs, will again sit out Friday night’s match, but Crusaders head coach Todd Blackadder said the veteran was close to being fit and should come into the mix for next Saturday’s game against the Highlanders in Dunedin.
