Springbok tighthead CJ van der Linde has pleaded with SA Rugby to give him another chance to play for the Springboks.
Afrikaans Sunday newspaper Sondag reported that Van der Linde sent a letter to SA Rugby this week which confirmed that his Irish club Leinster would release him should he be chosen to face the British and Irish Lions this winter.
News 24 reports that Van der Linde’s agent Stefan Weyers delivered the letter to SA Rugby after ongoing discussions with SA Rugby’s acting managing director Andy Marinos.
Van der Linde previously turned down a contract offer from SA Rugby because of personal reasons but said he still wants to play for the national team.
“CJ’s desire is still very much to play for the Springboks,” Weyers told Sondag.
The fact that Van der Linde did not take up the SA Rugby contract offer means that it is highly unlikely that he will join a team such as the Blue Bulls, Stormers or Sharks for the Currie Cup. He is likely to see out his contract with Leinster until 2010.Tweet
