The coach of the Vodacom Bulls, Frans Ludeke, has named Victor Matfield among his reserves for Saturday’s clash against the Stormers at Loftus Versfeld, whilst the young winger Gerhard van den Heever comes in for the injured Bryan Habana.
The Bulls website reports that Matfield’s shoulder injury is something of the past and after training with the team on Tuesday the Medical team were happy with his recovery and Ludeke says his role against the Stormers will be that of an impact player.
Van den Heever is an under 20 player who has been training with the Bulls for the past five months and Ludeke is convinced that he will be able to do the job against the Stormers.
“Gerhard played for us in the warm-up matches and I am confident that he will do well for us.”
He is a product of the Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies), Pretoria where he played Craven Week rugby for the Blue Bulls and was one of the stalwarts of the Bulls’ under 19 team in 2008.
With Dewald Potgieter on the sideline, Pedrie Wannenburg starts in the number 7-jersey and the hard working Namibian, Jacques Burger, will be the loose forward reserve. JP Nel and Jaco Pretorius switch places this time with Nel getting his first start for the season.
