Springbok wing Jongi Nokwe has been axed from the Cheetahs’ starting line-up for Saturday’s Super14 match against the Highlanders in Dunedin.
Pieter Jordaan writes for Volksblad that South African sevens star Fabian Juries has been picked in Nokwe’s place on the left wing. It is hoped that Juries’s unpredictability will give the Cheetahs backline an attacking edge.
Juries replaced Nokwe shortly after half-time in last Friday’s defeat to the Blues. Juries may have overdid the tactic of chip kicks but he constantly looked for work which doesn’t appear to be one of Nokwe’s strengths.
Another interesting move by the Cheetahs coaching staff was the inclusion of 23-year-old Francois Uys on the flank. Uys moved from the Lions to the Cheetahs last year.
Wayne van Heerden, who has performed well since taking over the No 7 jersey from the injured Juan Smith, moves to lock.
Uys is 194cm tall and weighs 109kg. It is safe to say that the Cheetahs are not losing anything in terms of size or in the lineouts.
Van Heerden will partner David de Villiers in the second row, with Nico Breedt dropping out of the starting line-up.
Bees Roux has recovered sufficiently from an ankle injury to be picked at tighthead prop. Kobus Calldo has also been declared fit and is among the substitutes.

It’s not got off to a good start either… I’ve been out of the office for the last week and I just spent 200 bucks on sausage rolls and cakes and just found practically the whole development team won’t be in.
